Hi all,
Advice needed, if you can.

I'm running out of space to keep my programmes and was wondering at the logic of keeping them in the loft, in enclosed plastic storage boxes. Would it be sensible, or would they deteriorate?

Is there something I could put in the boxes to ensure damp or cold didn't get to them.
Would silica Gel packs work, or do they not work for long?

Any advice welcome.

Cheers.

We have been here before, there's previous threads on this which should prove informative. Generally lofts and garages are a no no, unless heated. Condensation in the air is the enemy, and the colder the spot the worse it is, cause of the dreaded rusty staple and worse. Plastic boxes rarely come with proper airtight seals, though silica gel does absorb moisture, what happens when it reaches its saturation point? What I use is double seal click lock plastic bags which I fill up with same size items and then put in similar size cardboard boxes and then tape them up. If you then put a box inside a plastic sack and taped that, then you should be alright. Mind you this form of storage is no good if you need continual access. I am sure others will disagree but find space in the house if you can!

I agree with slightfold - in the house is best.

I wonder if anyone has used vacuum bags used for linen etc....... just a thought as they shouldn't have any air in them; no air should mean no moisture.........................................
