I thought I'd try and shift an old programme on eBay . I placed a bin for £80 with offers. A guy offered £60. I said spilt it , £70 . He came back £65 . Tight sod Laughing I mean it wasn't your everyday item , it was quite old. I didn't accept . Maybe I should have went £67.50 but he probably come back with £66.25 Very Happy I know what people will say , he made an offer and we didn't come to an arrangement . But a fiver for a nice item ? Anyone else had a silly haggle?

I would have met half way (£70). Going half way on a half way offer is a bit mean. I thought it was funny more than anything else.

Surely that's what haggling is all about.

Buyers don't necessarily have to accept the initial reduction if they think they can get it for a little less, although in this instance I think most people would have accepted the halfway split.

Let's hope the prospective buyer is on here to respond to the tight arse accusation. Laughing

If everybody used your criteria Wullie eBay might as well have just one best offer chance and not three

It might be worth you googling "How to use the best offer option and how not to"

Be interesting if the prospective buyer is on here.....

And here I am! Not really.

As the seller I wouldn't want to lose the sale for the small difference but on the other hand as the buyer I wouldn't want to risk not getting the item by over-haggling, annoying the seller & then having to pay the full BIN if I really wanted it!

It wasn't you Ruud Van Driver . The figure was £60 not 60p MEOW ( only kidding mate ) I understand haggling is all part of collecting. The programme I'm talking about doesn't appear often to say the least. My guess was it was a " non collector " looking to sell it on at a profit rather than a collector. It's one of those that you haggle over £60 one week then another week could sell it for £100 plus no problem. Never any logic to programme prices. It's back in the cupboard for now.

Might be easier for you if you just put it on as a BIN next time and save yourself the hassle of the haggle!!
"Non collector" selling on at profit?
Isn't that what you are doing ?

To keep the thread going. Has anyone ever been really insulted by an over ? OR . Has anyone made an over and had abuse back ? I notice eBay allow you to make a comment to the potential buyer.

£80 wouldn't buy you a seat and a hot dog nowadays . Haven't been for years. It's a joke. Premiership survival every year is a successes ?

Although it may seem annoying the reality is that iy is what "making an offer" is all about and that a buyer has chances to make 3 offers and seller 3 counter offers. Sure the item may be rare but as a buyer why pay more than you have to.

You might have valued it at a minimum of £70 but maybe the potential buyer felt £60-65 was his valuation or he/she was buying it with a resale aim thus a £5 more on the price is a £5 less profit. Whatever his/her motive the reality is that nobody buys an item in order to fill the sellers pockets as a favour but based on their valuation and the best price they can achieve.

You do have other options. One is to automatically reject any offers below a certain price so you could set the bar at your minimum or alternatively just put it up for BIN then the buyer has a take it or leave it decision and no aggravation.

100% in agreement with goonerboy

and as for Sunderland Premier League ,as it is actually called, survival is a success too right it is you are talking as if they have won multiple trophies over the last eighty years ...I can only recall 1973
Funny everyone who doesn't go to matches these days has a go at the prices not as if it would be hard to get tickets and I bet you would get good change out of your £80 if you did go

Could you not contact the buyer again and send him your mobile number asking for him to call you accepting his offer thus saving on ebay fees, ive done it a few times and haven't been caught by the ebay police yet

I have a similar view on a couple of Newcastle friendlies ...been offered less than I would like so am choosing to hang on...you can always cash in if you really need the money, but haggling goes both ways...just because they make an offer doesn't mean you have to accept it...if they want it they will move...if you want the cash you will

Buyer is a tight arse,
I had a Newcastle home from 1963 I think for £1.20, it didn't sell, someone offered me £1 for it, minutes after the auction ended, I took it but I bet his arse squeaks when he walks.

The majority of collectors especially on here are tight arses.

Like the chap on here who offered me a 5th of the true value of all my Pre 1940 programmes.
And some twat on here who offered me £2 Each for all my Pre 1950 Aston Villa homes
No matter what you list on here everyone wants to knock you down.
My advice if you have anything rare pop it on Ebay a bit over its true value and reduce it each month it does not sell.

I dont like been mugged and the tight arses would'nt either.

Pay the rate the seller wants or shut the feck up.

TIGHT ARSEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEES
