And I thought there were some rip off merchants on ebay but this takes the biscuit.
After recently purchasing a programme at the Charterhouse auction I was stunned to find they had charged me £23.51 for postage and packing!!!
I don't mind being charged the £6 for special delivery and then a couple of quid for packing but this takes the piss.
Can anyone beat this for an rip off postsage price?

Was the programme with 3 Rothmans Yearbooks and do you live in Australia?

OUCH!

I have been put off bidding at some auctions as they outsource all the deliveries and there is no indication of what the charge will be unless you want to do further enquiries with the delivery company.

Having said that others e.g. Sportingold have been very reasonable even for special deliveries where they could whack it on.

I'd like to know how they justify that charge for one programme, it must be worth reporting to Watchdog? I'm sure they would follow it up which may possibly help all of us in the long run. You are over the proverbial barrel once you've bought something.

Did you agree to this before they sent the item ? if not then you have a clear case to force them to refund and settle at a suitable amount.

It's often a case that people who use ebay don't allow for business expenses when judging postage. I for example I simply won't post anything for less the a pound. On the site thats fine our our prices seem regarded as fair when compared to other sites even though we use weight + 75p for packing. But on ebay it seem if you charge more then a second class stamp you are trying to rip people off Smile and people do get used to expecting to be charged that stamp only.

If it's just a standard programme sent SD anything over £8-9 is extortion and if you never saw the cost before hand you have been extorted in my opinion if they used Royal Mail.

I bought some magazines some months ago and they wanted to charge me £40 for postage. I said I would collect and sent a parcel company. Pity for both parties they then had to run around to pack the magazines for me but I got my mags for £7 Smile
