Can anyone shed any light on the poster in the window, believed to be advertising a forthcoming game of football between Droylsden and Newton Heath?

It is known that this fish and chip shop was in Droylden itself.

I cant find any reference to a fixture between the teams, it has since been suggested that it was for a cricket match? Cheers.

Is this is the earliest known picture of famous Newton Heath star Wain Royney - pictured in the News of The World emerging from a local brothel (allegedly) - or it might have been R. Y. Angiggs - another player on the books of the local team?

Sherlock Sherlock

On closer inspection it looks like it says "on saturday june", which would probably rule out a football match wouldnt it?

Newton Heath LYR 1890-10001

i guess it was a cricket match as have we already discussed Droylesden has never played NY at football according to all the record books.

By the way Dan I thought being a Bitter Blue referred to the noisey neighbours in Manchester!.
