I cannot remember the last time I placed a bid for an auction. The recent tendency, in my experience, has been for auction houses to offer a 'collection' of programmes in one lump. I do not need twenty of thirty programmes if there is only one I am interested in. That may be okay to a novice building up a collection but not for collectors who have been collecting for many years. I can understand offering a lot of Post War programmes as these fetch very little these days. But what about programmes that would fetch three figures if offered singley? There is a Graham Budd auction next month that has grouped together four programmes. Three pre-first world war Chelsea homes v Luton 1909, v Spurs 1910, A combined 2 West London schoolboys maes from 1911 and Fulham v Blackpool 1923! Opening bid £170 estimate £300/£500. Why! Would a Blackpool collector want to spend in excess of £500 and have three programmes they do not require or need. Are auction houses following instructions?
