Has anyone else noticed the growing trend of 'sellers' advertising on the Programmes For Sale/Exchange Thread responding to enquiries by asking what your "Offer" is for specific programme(s).

Personally, I have never been a fan of the Offers system and have noted that even on Sports Programmes Monthly Offers Lists there are some run of the mill items with minimum bids far in excess of what you can pick these progs up for on EBay or other dealers.

I believe that anyone wishing to sell through the Forum should be asked to sell at set prices, as most 'older' members, for example Auchleckian always do.

I'm with you....and I'm a dealer

The offers system is all one sided. Everything I sell is also open to offers but I won't sell it for less then it cost me - just like the so called offers lists so what is the point of them and where is the value for the buyer.

It's a very thorny issue...and yes, us old ones know our place! Wouldn't advocate that certain categories of programmes should not be on offer as opposed to a fixed price sale, but perhaps there's a happy medium (I know from speaking to some forum members who now no longer use this facility that they too were fed up with "what will you offer me" for something that has no real value)
How about an offers section and a straight sale section on the forum? From a personal preference I've bought many programmes / collections off here at a fixed price, but only two lots as offers (a huge Blackpool collection about 2.5 years back, and a similar Colne Dynamoes / Accrington Stanley collection) Have had a small number of individual programmes on offers, but feel that we ought to be able to stand by the courage of our convictions when it comes to both buying and selling.
How many times do we see individuals posting on here bemoaning how highly priced things are, and then see programmes that most folk wouldn't be able to give away being put up for offers?
There has to be some common sense involved otherwise we will continue to lose members because of the same old things being repeated. VIVA ZIMMERS!

I think your views are interesting. I have always purchased programmes. Now that I am getting rid of my collection I have been asking for offers as I have no real feel for what they are worth and or value.

Programmes I am selling normally come with an offer to return if not satisfied, for any reason, for full refund. This seems reasonable and fair.

Now not sure if I should offer my programmes as I have been doing.

Other members views would be appreciated.

Personally, I detest "offers" and feel that if you want to sell through this site, then individual items should be priced (unless you're looking for swaps). I avoid any items where offers are invited.

If you are unsure as to the items worth, ask for advice first, or ebay it.

When I am selling I never ask for offers, I just use the same prices as "The Programme Centre" See here www.footballprogrammecentre.co.uk/football-programme-prices.php
So if anyone does ask me to make them an offer then I use those same prices.
Seems a lot easier to do this than ask for offers.
Of course there are occasional ones (the last game at Eastville for example) that will be priced higher due to various reasons.
I have to accept that when I am selling progs from other clubs then that means I may sell at a price that is lower than I could get elswhere.

An experienced programme dealer will have a good idea what the programme is worth, with an invitation to offer, they can accept or decline for another day. It's also a way of letting others know what other goodies you might have.

An inexperienced seller, may rightly or wrongly think they have something of value. (Many don't know)

After all nobody wants to 'get done', i.e selling that single sheet friendly for 50p when it could go for £50. And vice versa, asking over the odds for something thats worth nowt.

It could it be that these sellers are just covering their backsides, and don't wish to be ridiculed on here by self acclaimed programme experts who have been collecting programmes for five minutes.

In the end, if you don't like the offer system don't play it.

Oh dear... They are just designed to be lower than any of the other main dealers when i built the page in 2008... Dealers prices have probably risen since then where as this page hasnt changed.

I will bear this in mind next time you have any Cardiff items i wish to purcahse though Very Happy

Im reading this whole thread, i too find it interesting, obvioulsy i want to do whats best for the forum so im not really going to comment for now and just see what you all decide would be good. I have my own ideas at the moment.

Have bought a number of P.P's programmes on here, and nothing could be simpler. Well described, more than reasonably priced, and in the end you get two people who are both more than satisfied with the transaction. The propensity of stuff that's easily checked on ebay for it's "value" does annoy at times, but we're all Jock Tamson's bairns, eh?

On this forum i have pmd people to ask a price to be told make me an offer. I have politely declined as i believe it the sellers job to quote a price, i have asked the price of an item at a fair and been told make me an offer. I cannot understand stall holders at fairs npt pricing items.

I agree with Tynie Topics i detest offers

John,

I hope I have not offended you by referring to you as 'older'. I use the term in the sense that you have been a member of the Forum for longer than most.

However, "if the cap fits...."

There should be some sort of code that all stallholders adhere to at fairs about ensuring all their items are priced. Otherwise you know they're just out to rip people off.
Think there does seem to be a groundswell of opinion on here for fixed price items Craig? Special section for it, and leave the "offers" as they are for those who wish to indulge?

Thats what im thinking too...

We split the current section into 2

Programmes for straight sale
Programmes for offers

Would everyone agree thats the best way forward?

I agree. Sounds good to me. I too prefer a fixed price rather than offers option

That sounds like a good idea to me it saves wading through stuff that is of no interest if you won't do offers
