Absolutely distraught after watching that.

We all know the overall standard in the Premier league this season has been below past seasons, and Utd havent had to do an awful lot to win it.

That said, with only 5 away wins, you dont get lucky over 38 games and I honestly thought that the horror of Rome 3 years ago would be overcome tonight.

Barcelona are, were, and have been for the last 3 years out of this world.

We could have played better, but not enough to match them. Gutted.

One of the most awesome displays of team football I have seen for a long time !!

Is La Liga now the premier football league in Europe???

NO !!!, If the same amount of money was pumped into La Liga as into the FA Premier League it would be the best competition in the world. However, it's dominated by Barca & Real in the same way the SPL is dominated by the 2 Glasgow giants. It needs more competition as in the Premier League. Just imagine a 4-way fight between Barca, Real, Atletico and Valencia with others close by !!

BRAVO BARCA !!! Easy

Would have to say the Football League Champions of 1962/63 Everton ,
i never missed a home game that season has an enthusastic 13 year old , now that was a great team.

Barca are a great team but I don't think they are much better then the unbeaten Arsenal team of 04. And they were perhaps not better then the Leeds team of the early 70s.

Just shows the state of the premiership when a ordinary half regular team like this years Man U can win it. Shows the state of football today that Barca can camp 9 player on the edge of the box till they score and they can do that with any team in the world. Pretty sure they wouldn't be able to do that with the likes of Franz Beckenbauer in a defence. No one heard of sweepers in Manchester then ?

The result didn't do a lot of good for programme values though did it ?

United should have played Scholes and had Carrick on the bench, he didn't start in Rome either, he's the best United player at passing and keeping hold of the ball, the nearest United have to a Barca player. At least play him until he gets booked then take him off rather than bring him on when its all over like they did in Rome.

No shame in losing to a fantastic team like that, best i've ever seen upto last night was red star at old trafford in the 1991 super cup final...
People are moaning that united should spend millions but on who?,how do you stop messi...
Our youth team should see some special players coming through the next season or two, just a shame that this barca team is around at the same time....
oh to have a fc brugge,81 madrid or 82 bayern as our final opponents last night...
Well done barca you well and truly are a great side...

Well Done Barca-not happy of course!

For one who was there and paid for his ticket unlike the 4 scroats around me who did not and the many who got in by jumping over the hurdles, there is no point in lavisihing more praise-as you run out of superlatives.

However, on reflection under Ferguson in Europe we were "fortunate" that the Germans never played to the end and over confidence over took them in 1999, we owe 2008 to John Terry, 2009 was a debacle and last night against the same team it was an even bigger one.

What have we learned?, all i heard was how Fergie KNEW how he got it wrong in 2009, how Evra admitted over confidence, how Rio had never forgotten his nightmare and so on and so forth..........

As a season ticket holder and supporter through good and bad times-i am waiting for the next round of "explanations" from the hierarchy.
If Fergie was the boss at Real Madrid and had lost 2 out 3 finals to the same team in as many years he would be replaced!, ask Del Bosque as he served Real in every capacity as player and coach and won many things during his association of around 35 years at the Bernabeau but was slung out on his ear irrespectively. However he turns up managing Spain to the World Cup with 7 of his charges from Barca-an even bigger kick in the bollocks to his former masters.

It is said today that the whole of Spain apart from Catalunya was behind United, just like the obvious United haters but the neutrals all wanted an English win.

I cannot say we will go now and return to fight another day-but this was a match between men and boys last night-NEVER, NEVER have i seen so much space created and men overlapping and not being picked up, also Fergie was not even in the technical area shouting, pushing, screaming, advising his men-it was the same old same old in Roma after 10 minutes after Eto scored, they all looked to the bench to say to Fergie"YOUSAID THEY WOULDNT SCORE-NOW WHAT DO WE DO"
My shame is that we had no answers before the game and less idea during it, I also think Barca stopped short of a total humiliation as if they had wanted 2 or more they would have scored them as well.

I am disappointed primarilly not at the result but in the way our team and the management prepared and then played-it was a disgrace, only Paul Scholes knew how to stop Messi over 2 semis in 2008-yet due to his reckless attempts at tackling was precluded until it was too late.
The only consolation is that Barca is not in the Premier League as NONE of the top four would live with them over 90 minutes.

Lets face it, we can all try and re write history and with the invention of the Premier League this has happened. Facts remain however that in any given season you can only beat the teams that are placed in front of you and take part under the rules of that particular season.
Brugges, Real Madrid and Bayern Munich in those seasons reached the finals as did Benfica, Bayern Munich and Chelsea in subsequent and following years. The finalists need to be considered in historical context as the "best" teams in that particular season.
For the Liverpool team in 78, 81 and Villa team of 82 they 1st had to be Champions Of England before being able to try and win the trophy.
Finishing 2nd would not have been good enough to even take part.
I agree Barcelona are an exceptional team and only exceptional teams will win the competition 3 times in 6 seasons. They are not the 1st to do this but will join an elite number that have.
United have been unlucky to have played a truly great team twice in finals recently but unfortunately history will show 2 defeats in 3 years

what a fantastic team!!!every football coach in england should be purring with delight at the way they play the game.alas we encourage our kids to win, win, win at any costs, where the emphasis should be teaching them about ball retainment, being comfortable with the ball at your feet, not just GETTING RID as soon as there is pressure.how many long balls did you see them play last night?they were on a different planet to utd, there was nothing they could do.viva barca

It didn't look like Fergie had any tactical options other than to throw the kitchen sink at Barca for 10 minutes before their magicians settled down. Once that failed the writing was on the wall and defending so deeply in the second half in particular just played into their hands.

Having said that anybody who loves the beautiful game can only be enthralled watching this team, in my view the best ever.

Thank you for honest thinking about supercup1991 and match between M.U and R.S.
Yes, this year Mancheseter (and rest English clubs) return in Europe after 5 years of punishmnet for Heysel.
M.U. won barcelona in final Cup Winers Cup and won Red Star, but we know here in Belgrade how good played Red Star.
After..M.U. went in space, Red Star in underground.
And now is difference 100 light years.
But, nice to see your oppinion for that team.
We are here very disapointed for Sir Alex didnt fulfilled the promise, that will play friendly in Belgrade sometime (because play supercup only in Manchester without chance for revange).
It was extra chance in february 2008 (for memmory of last match before Munich disaster), but, nothing. More important is commercial trips in South Corea etc, then promice for 1991 and memory for 1958. And M.U. fans had allways great respect for SPIRIT of 1958.
Shame, but, no interest to go in Belgrade.

No need to be sorow for lost match. Barca is beter team then World Champions in South Africa.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Barcelona is beter then Spain national team.
No need to be disapointed. M.U. is only one who tryed and in which beleived here.

And lets face it if Bendtner had scored (which he should have) when he was through on goal late on in the second leg in Barcelona then Arsenal would have gone through on away goals (4-4) and we wouldn't be talking about how amazing this Barcelona team is.

I said the premier league, so you beat them once and they stuffed you in the return -we did that in 2008 and Messi played in both but never conceded and went on to win that final, where as you beat them 2-1 and went on to lose out in every competition this season. My question was rhetorical as no one can live with them when they are in this mood going forward-do you think u can beat them again?, not a cats, don't you have to qualify first for next season-do not know how it works as never finished lower than 3rd and i think since 1993 that was once from memory or twice at worst.
I think our stats show up just a bit better than yours-especially these past 6 years. Clap now that is worth applauding.
