2 more recent arrivals at PPP and they chart the life of 1st Division winger-come-centre forward Mike Summerbee at the height of his career at Manchester City.

Pop music was taking off and thanks to his mate across Manchester, George Best, the profile of footballers was also going through the roof. The "Summer of Love" was approaching fast.

The first image shows Mike at the wheel of his trendy Swedish sports car, inserting a record into the dash-mounted record player. Not any old record though - this was Ruby Tuesday (a double-A side with "Let's Spend the Night Together" on reverse) which was a huge hit for the Rolling Stones in 1967. Having said all that - a dashboard-mounted record player? Were there no potholes in Manchester? Or, perish the thought.... speed humps? I can't imagine they caught on.

That was taken in March 67 and in the same month, Mike had joined forces with Georgie to open an Edwardian boutique in the middle of town. The photo below was dated the following October.

These were innocent times, relatively speaking. But the times, they were a-changing.

Cheers all.

I thought the early CD players for cars skipped a bit - a record player must have been as good as useless!!

They weren't a success, they used to skip a lot and because only one label made them the catalogue was a bit limited.

Great picture tho..
