I listed 102 programmes, tickets and pirate programmes on ebay last week - unfortunately ebay wouldn't let me choose not to accept offers. I never end listings early but thought it would be interesting to track the offers I received (all were politely declined) against final sale prices:

1 listing - I would have got more from the offer - LOST £1.01

23 listings - I would have got less from the offers - GAINED £466.24

Overall then, by ignoring every offer I profited by £465.23

Why on earth does anyone accept offers to end an auction early?

Because it is like a game of chance. If someone initially offers you a little bit above the starting Price, it's then lucky dip time whether that item will increase by more, or only stay at the starting Price.
