The reason i ask is that i've seen some on ebay over the past few months that have been described as mint but have scores, team changes, crosswords etc filled in but the seller doesn't class that sufficient enough to describe it as such.
Am i the only one who thinks that's wrong or am i not alone...please enlighten me as to your thoughts on this Judge

My view is that a mint programme is one in the condition it left the printers..no creasing, stains ,writing...
A lot of stuff on ebay is poorly described to put it mildly.I often ask sellers to give more details before making a bid

My definition of MINT.........

Like it came off the press yesterday.

Some sellers on EBAY are discribing a plant they have in their garden, not the items they have for sale.
Sorry seller........You sell me item NOT MINT when you discribe it as MINT.......You get it back baby xxxx

To me, it does depend on age. A mint 1950's is not the same as a mint current season issue.

If sellers sell a lot of 'run of the mill' items then I would assume they don't check every page, e.g. may just check the front cover and team pages and general appearance.

But my definition of mint for current season is as everyone else, the same condition is left the printers in..... providing they didn't drop the box in a puddle!!

I have just spent 4 hours adding loads of progs to my mini store. Just about all of them are mint but I have described them all as excellent as the tinyest flaw means it is not mint in my book.

Well that's my take on it.

Got to agree with everyone else here that mint means absolutely flawless. As it left the printers is mint nothing else. I wouldnt expect 50s and 60s programmes to be described as mint as very very few are, many are excellent, but due to age etc cannot be called mint.

Im am very wary of describing an item as 'mint' and tend to use 'excellent' instead. I think once an item has been handled and put through the post it ceases to be mint, but that's just my personal opinion.

It's got nothing to do with age, the only example of something being mint is a an item without fault it's come from currency fresh from the mint. IE. just printed and without printer faults either.

If two items where folded the same way you can't say just because something has age that it is less damaged. In the same way you can't say anything with damage is in mint condition.

The term MINT FOR IT"S AGE simply is not logical.

I agree with most comments . I have a 1952 Sunderland v Liverpool programme i would call mint. It is flawless . No ageing of pages, not even the tiniest rust mark on staples, it could have been printed yesterday ( probably was , knowing my luck ). I doubt i would ever call an old programme mint, but in this case i would.
