A friend has a copy of Bristol Rovers v Fulham League Cup 1st round 1960/61. He reckons it might be the first ever league cup tie played as the match was a day before the other games.

Is this correct? Any idea on value?

Thanks,

Steve

Hes partially right (I think)... It kicked off 10 or 15 minutes earlier for some reason. If anyone has a copy of this months PM handy there is a little bit about it in there. If not ill tell you more details later on Thumbs Up

Hi Steve
If anybody keeps back issues of Programme Monthly, they should be able to tell you as they ran a feature a while ago which gave an indication of rarity based on a 1-4 basis as some of the programmes are relatively common. Sorry I can't be of any further help on this one.
Best wishes

In PM it was rated as 4/5 in terms of rarity.
5/5 being very scarce.

You are correct it was the first ever League Cup game. It wasn't the only game that evening but we did kick of 15 mins before the others. So Rovers became the first team to win a League cup game.
About the only clain to fame we have got.

Aren't you also the only side to lose a League Cup Preliminary Round tie?

For some reason the lowest placed league side not relegated to the Conference played the Conference Champions in 2002/03, we came to The Mem in early August and won 2-0.

Just going through the old posts and found this one hasent been answered reguarding the value of the programme, I paid around £35 a a number of years ago (when the market price was fairly high) and have seen one go on ebay within the last year for just over £20 (£22ish) so overall if you can pick one up for around £25 in good condition youve got yourself a good deal, as for its rarity I wouldnt say its that rare as in its more collectable.

Perhaps unsurprisingly, the first League Cup goal was scored in this game by Maurice Cook of Fulham.

To add a bit of detail to this matter:

2 LC games played that evening - 26 Sep 1960;

Bristol Rovers vs Fulham 2-1 (HT 0-0)

West ham vs Charlton 3-1 (HT 0-0)
