Any advice on this would be appreciated, described as a souvenir programme, its very crude in content.
Nicholls of Battersea are the printers.
As I was at the match with others, one of us must have bought it, although I do have the proper match programme.
With my other programmes I've been happy to start them on Ebay with my own guess at a start valuation.
Whether I'm right or wrong is turning out to be the fun part of the exercise now I've begun selling!
This one, £1, £10 or free to good home?
I have no idea!

I have a few from the 72/3 season. Awful they are , and pretty much worthless, but I still put them in my collection so you may get a buyer.

Palace played Real Madrid in 1962 to open the new floodlights.

The ticketr price was double the normal price, so everyone got given a free programme to kind of make up for the extra.

The club expected a crowd of 40,000, but it rained heavily and 'only' 25,000 came.

The programmes are incredibly common, if anyone actually wanted one they needn't pay more than £1. Ebay today alone has more than a dozen of them - it's probably the most commonly available Palace programme (along with maybe the 1990 Cup Final)

However there is a dreadful pirate programme for the game as well. Few would have bought it if they'd have known they would be given a free programme after passing through the turnstiles.

The Pirate does come up maybe once every couple of years, but goes for about £40.

And it truly is a load of rubbish, but as the game was a major part of the clubs history, a lot of collectors do seem to want it. I have one and I wouldn't say I'm a serious programme collector at all. But you just have to have it!

Definitely stick the cup final pirate on ebay, but do go to the trouble of explaining what it is, and that actually it is rarer than the official programme! Someone will be after it.

I collect the Pirate issue if I see them for my club so someone may want it - is it just Wullie and me who pick them up? Shocked

I have quite a few pirate programmes for Blackpool matches from the 40s and 50s and always try and add to them whenever I can.

At the last count I think there were 38 pirates from this era involving Blackpool, mostly aways.

Prices realised on some of these in the last 12 months or so far outweigh the prices for the equivalent official programmes.

Quite right, it may end up like the ticket situation and people moving onto completing everything to do with a specific club or game.

This pirate was produced for the 1954 Amateur Cup Final Replay.

The initial replay was at St.James Park, but if you look closely at the scan you can see that a sticker with the date and Ayresome Park was placed over the St. James park details for the 2nd replay (note how they spent Ayresome!). This pirate raised circa £40 at a local auction some years ago.

If you are a collector of such programmes, would you want both programmes in your collection…..in effect paying for a sticker for the 2nd replay programme?

The price of the pirate was 6d whilst the official programme was only 3d.

Yep!
As you can see - no difference between the two.

Would love a copy of the Ayr(e)some Park pirate to go along with this one.

i don't think there are two of these in existence but you never know!!

The difference in this pirate, is that there wasn't an actual programme for the game
The game of course is the 1911 FA Cup Final replay between Bradford City and Newcastle United at Old Trafford on 26-4-1911

This and many other gems can be seen at
www.flickr.com/photos/63580000@N04/sets
Go to the set marked "not many of these buggers about" to see some real gems and help yourselves to the scans

Shocked Shocked
