Post subject: Pre war Arsenal reproductions

I have just sold a 38/9 season Arsenal home which was in exceptionally good condition for its age.

I didn't give a second thought to the programme being a reproduction as I have ones in my collection which are equally as good, and I have seen lots of other Arsenal pre war over the years which also were in very good condition.

The buyer, whilst not making a song and dance about it, is questioning whether the programme is genuine.

Does anyone know if there are any Arsenal reproductions from this or any other pre war season?

Woolwich Arsenal v Leicester Fosse 06/09/13 has been reproduced in the past it was included in a 1963 Arsenal v Leicester City programme. I also think other reproductions of it have been produced down the years.

The only red cover one i know is v Newcastle 1930s it has the scores on the team line ups and apart from that you cannot tell. It was part of a reprinted series which included Aston Villa v Bristol City 1910 i think.

I have a couple of outstanding Arsenal pre war. I can't see how an experienced collector can doubt their originality. Even tough their are pristine it is obvious they are the real deal. No doubt a few unsold programmes on the day have survived , these will probably be some of them. Next time, throw it in the mud, fold it and leave it in the rain for 5 minutes. Then I'm sure the buyer will be satisfied .

Thanks for the replies. Thumbs Up

So far nothing suggests there is a spate of reproductions knocking around.

You're right Wullie, if I had dirtied it a bit and introduced the odd fold the authenticity wouldn't have been questioned.

Yes, Villa v Bristol City quite a common reprint - mine even has rusty staples!
