It didn't surprise me in this crazy hobby . I bet Peter Rhoades-Brown is gutted. This scrap of paper he gave away probably made more money than the poor blokes testimonial.
I wonder who the winning bidder was..... Sherlock

....alternatively for £19,000 you could obtain a nice collection of sought after pre-war FA Cup Finals.

http://www.sportspages.com/football/football_programmes/fa_cup_finals/?search

as Tynie mentioned...Madness!

To be fair, this is a unique item . A one off. Not like another will turn up next week. A real piece of history. If I won the Euro lottery last week, I'd probably buy it myself. it's all relative. Some people would saying paying £3/£4 for a modern match day programme is insane

From reading the article could have gone anywhere does not state who brought it anyone at the auction?

"Auctioneer Andrew Aldridge said there had been "phenomenal' interest from all around the world" in the sale by Henry Aldridge and Sons in Devizes, Wiltshire."

The winner bidder was Khaldoon Al Mubarak
He is planning to burn it on the opening day of the 2013/14 season

Shake
what's the shake for?, you know for sure who bought it?, well if it was not you-who does that leave- Sheik yer Mornay

If that sells for 19k then whats this worth as only one of these exists or has ever surfaced in 28 years. It was a toss up which cover got the nod for the 1985 Cup Final, fortunately for me the Black one won which is worthless where as this white cover was produced as a full programme with the identical pages and content as one example from the printer and the FA chose the other one, i usually say if there is one there there are two but on this occassion it does not appear to be so but who knows maybe there is another one, but in the meantime i may consider a deal!

Now i don't expect as much as £19k but i will settle for £18k for cash Laughing

This reminds me of the Rare Rupert the Bear Cover.

Like FA Cup replay programmes and tickets for games that that were never played, they are normally a one off and if you've got two or three collectors with money to burn, then expect high prices.

Not me matey, if i had won the lottery i would still not give it a second thought poss a couple of hundred quid as a curiosity, just because you had money does it make it sensible??, you have just said 3/4 quid for a modern programme is insane!! now if you had money you would pay £19k for a curiosity?? Wullie there is no logic to your reasoning.
Fergies first match away or home are worth 2-3 quid a piece before he went and the same now, glory hunters, nerds, half wits, dopes thinking they can invest etc etc etc have all tossed their money down the drain and to think if it is true that 2 persons fought over this piece of nonesense, i am suspicious of this whole event-just does not ring true-buyer has to have no real collectors knowledge surely.

i will show you all something later which has nothing to do with United but is as unique and from a much more important football event, and maybe those loonies paying out for Bonetti's pictures could get worked up for this?

I thought it was an interesting item , of course the price is crazy, but if you were worth £150 million you'll have probably made the money back in interest by the time it arrived in the post. It's all relative as I say. I would certainly over pay for items if money was no object. I think most people would.

P.S. , I bought one of these" hand written" team sheets for a Local game v Newcastle from ebay for a few quid. When it arrived, it was clearly a carbon copy of the handwritten sheet. I couldn't be arsed to make a fuss. Obviously it's pretty much worthless unless Sir Alex was involved somehow.

1970 F.A. Cup Final at Wembley Leeds United v Chelsea-11th April 1970

let's start it off say 0.99p[No Reserve]please form an orderley line

Over paying Wullie is one thing, so an item is worth £500 and you blow everyone out and pay £1000 or similar yes with big cash tucked away you can become the king of the castle so as to speak, but when an estimate is £2-3k[which was hopeful at best and the auction house felt that much spin would grab some headlines] 19k was from another planet!

If i had won 300 million i still would not pay that kind of money as basically it is simply not worth it and who would pay that much knowing it is worth no where near despite having millions in the bank, that would then make me put into the catergory of knowing the price of everything and the value of nothing-BUT i am not a lottery winner but i know that i could buy it now, but the same sentiments apply-total utter madness.
I dropped out of the bidding for the 1909 Final because i suspected that the eventual winner would stop at nothing so what was the point-and it was sold to a non United collector i suspect, i know all about Red Mist coming down but sometimes you have to wake up to the fact it aint gonna be your day!Crying or Very sad but where there are 2 then sometimes there maybe............

Well that is something. What would all those mega rich Chelsea collectors pay for those ? What would I pay for the 1973 cup final teamsheets ? I had to look twice . 11th April for a Final. Of course World Cup Year.
It's amazing what turns up.

i would suspect i do not even get one email enquiring!

I have had these two team sheets plus the refs own programme for sometime and his programme for the replay at OT but somehow the two team sheets for the replay were not amongst his bits and pieces neither was his bloody medal either!, but at least i obtained his medals for running the line in the 1958 Cup Final.
