I went to have a look to see if there were any interesting topics to read this morning and found all 5 recent posts were for bloody kitchens. Surely there must be someone who can put something in your website to block this rubbish? |

I thought we had this sorted? The website is being hijacked and it is being devalued. At this time of year, there will be fewer posts and the danger is new members will be put off using it for fear of being spammed or they'll just not bother unless they want a bloody kitchen appliance!!!
Please sort this craig or soneone in the know.
Cheers

Cheers for update
Best to leave Craig to it, he has enough to do and doesn't need me or others putting on extra pressure.
Hope sorted soon |

There's this bloke in Russia, in the transit lounge of Moscow Airport, Edward Snowden. He knows a lot about computers and how to programme them. Perhaps someone could email him and ask him for instructions to stop kitchen spammers? |

I know a few people who can possibly help,i'll ask them to advise.
I posted what I thought could possibly be quite interesting topic and it wasn't seen because of this spam. |

A guy I know who runs a football forum offered this.
If you point me to the forum ill make reccomendations on how to fix it based on what software they use. Some forum software is highly prone to it.
On any software, id try these if available as plugins:
Akismet - blocks most spam.
Stop Forum Spam - a spammer database
Admins can choose how people register. Ours uses both recaptcha (enter words from scanned images, and a "human test" plugin, where people must answer a question - often a simple math sum, like 2 + 8. This mostly works for us.
Another way is to require users to be "approved" by admins/mods. So instead of simply registering and posting, people must wait til they're approved by a mod.
Preventing people posting links often helps too - allow them to post links after they've made XX posts.
To prevent pm spam, don't let users pm until theyve posted XX number of times.
Lastly, mods must delete any that appears and ban the user. They're often posts/threads made by automated software, so spam attracts other spam and the situation only gets worse.
But because the spammers are anonymous programs, as well as being clever they're easily tricked by requiring human verification in some way. |
