I saw two numpties get into a bidding war and the seller got a gret result. Scottish cup Semi-Final 1954 Aberdeen v Rangers £70. No way is that a £70 programme. I got mine for £14 a few days later less flaws as well.......RESULT. |

Had quite a few over the years, Eck.
Got a late 30s Arsenal v Derby for a tenner or so - very reasonable but even better was the fact that, when it arrived, there were two original match tickets inside it. Kept one, flogged the other.
On a non-programme train of thought......
Put a Carl King demo 45 from 1966 up on EBay for a tenner - ended up going to £75.......what flabbergasted me about that was the fact that it was Carl King himself who was the winning bidder! He had a couple of minor hits back then but was delighted to finally add this to his collection. Nice guy.
The best was last year, though.......took a punt on a 60s autograph book. Seller couldn't make out many of the signatures but thought Julie Andrews(!!) might be one. Ah well, cost me a fiver. nothing ventured, nothing gained.......but, inside, was an original ticket for entry to the Cavern Club in Liverpool '62. It just fell out of the book. I sat there sort of stunned for about 3 hours
Tempting to sell it but it resides with my red label copy of "Love Me Do"!! _________________ http://www.flickr.com/photos/derby1884/sets/ |

I entered a competition for an Ipad with a local radio station with runners up prizes of a signed CD. I was a runner up and duly received a CD signed by Florence Welch of Florence and the Machine.I had never heard of her and stuck it on ebay with starting price a tenner having seen that a signed CD by a massive name like Kylie can be bought for not much more than that.Anyway 2 Americans went crazy for Florence and it sold for around £130. |

A few years ago I listed the 1980 FA Cup Final programme to finish on a weekday afternoon just hoping that someone would take it off my hands at the £2.99 starting price as I had two or three in stock at the time.
Anyway two ladies got into a bidding war over it (I later found out one needed it for her husband's birthday that weekend whilst the other needed it for her boyfriend's birthday that weekend - thinking about it now I hope it wasn't the same fella !!!).
Anyway the first lady won it for £31.
I offered the underbidder a second chance offer at £30 (more in hope than expectation). Anyway, to my astonishment, she took up the offer, paid straight away and asked if I could post it immediately.
Both ladies received their respective programmes and left wonderful feedback.

Had a great result has a buyer just before Christmas re some Wolves mid 60s Scrap Books of Ebay.
The guy had about ten he was moving on but i was only interested in the 67/68 ones (he had two), i contacted him re one of these that had no fewer then 750+ pages in it(it had match reports of every game H&A that season),
I asked him how much he was looking for and he was after £100+ i offered him £40+ as a first offer he said that if i left it with him over the week end he would get back to me and let me know what he had decided.
I never heard from him in a week but item came up again on Ebay with a starting price of £9.99 , and fortunatly for me there was no uther bidders , so i recon i obtained a real bargan there, it is a lovly piece of Wolves history i have been reading it for a week know and i am not yet half way through it.
Feel a bit of a c*** realy in obtaining it for so low a price (was guys pride & joy)......but there you go . _________________ "Some people say Wolves best days are gone i prefer to think the best are yet to come" Derek Dougan on joining Wolves from Leicester City 1967.

Loads from down the years.
One from literally a couple of weeks ago is this item
(I know most of you will find this a hideous item!)
They were commisioned by the local paper are are quite sought after by Palace collectors. I've already got a couple of them, and so have my ebay 'saved searches' trained to alert me with an email anytime anything is listed which features the word 'clayanger' . This is because the pottery maker was 'Clayanger' art pottery, and they didn't produce many of these (I have seen Stoke and Port Vale ones as well - no doubt due to the fact the company was local to those clubs - but that's it)
Anyway I got an alert, and sure enough my instincts to set up the search had proved right - the seller had chosen a really bad listing title, so much so, I very much doubt any Palace collector would have even seen it.
It was listed as "Clayanger Art Pottery - Willy's Team Figurine". The seller was from the other end of the country to Crystal Palace FC, hadn't sold anything football related before, and probably knows nothing about it, so just listed it based on the markings underneath.
Had it been listed as "Crystal Palace FC FA Cup Final pottery figure" or similar, and put it in a football memorabilia category, rather than just "Art pottery", then it would definitely have secured lots more interest and lots of bids (rather than just me as the sole bidder).
Nice to get a bargain to be honest. So often I just about get stuff at the top of my snipe limit, or get outbid. |

Darent say who or what, in case they read on here, but I purchased a programme the year before the Euro's in portugal 2004 for £50. Booked to go to Portugal and thought I'd e-bay said programme to see what happened. Sold it back to the guy who I brought it off the year before for £300. Paid for Portugal, although I spent six months wondering when the knock on the door would be. _________________ I was born in Bedfordshire, bred in Bedfordshire, & have been lumbered with Luton Town Thanks dad R.I.P.

Bought the 1960/61 Burnley v. Villa LC SF at Turf Moor for £4.99 - seller obviously thought it was just the league game as there is nothing on the cover to indicate otherwise. Banged it back on the following week and got £60 for it. _________________ Supporting Burnley & Workington for more years than I care to remember! |

Saw a collection of about 50 Chesterfield reserve single sheets from 1950s and 60s for sale on ebay. Bought them for £50.
On checking them I found CFC V Norwich City in league cup 1961/2 amongst them (vary rare and sells for £500+).
Also a couple of early 60s friendlies against Rotherham United that rarely appear and two public practice games from 50s.
I would put the total value of the full collection at £1000+.
Didn't feel too bad about such a snip as it was an antique shop selling them. |

about 4-5 years ago i bought a newcastle home Fairs Cup ticket from late 60s from a bloke's list of items for sale. He had priced it at 50p so i thought it would be a good bet thinking it might go for £10-£15 on a good day on eBay.
I whacked it onto ebay a few weeks later and it got to about £10 within a couple of days. Then I had a question from a buyer saying would I sell it offline for about £40. I thought about it for a day or so and was going to reply that I'll let him have it for £45. Literally minutes just before I sent the message I had another buyer send me a question offering twice as much. At that point I thought I'll gamble and see what happens on the auction. I let it run and final price was about £280. Not bad for a 50p purchase from which I thought I could make a tenner. |

A good few years back I was collecting all the Norwich season reviews videos and got all but one pretty quickly. After three years of searching the last one I needed finally came up - 1995/96 (not a great season, but for some reason it just never appeared) and when it finally did I ended up bidding £26 for it!!! Anyway it never turned up so after 10 days I told the seller who to my suprise gave me an instant refund. 2 weeks later another one turned up again and I was the only bidder at £1!
I am enjoying this thread, so keep them coming. I think Derbys Beatles ticket is going to take some beating though...... that must be worth a small fortune!!! |

i think the seller of this press photo between Chelsea and Man United from 1961 fits this thread admirably-it is around £986 with time to go shill bidding gone mad or there is according to our member Holtie some crazy bastard with more brass than brains shelling out and according to him it is a regular occurance.
Not that i am suggesting this for one moment but years ago a chap i used to know when he was surprised or shocked always said this and it made me laugh then as it does now:

I have tried to buy a few things for my wife on ebay. You can't bid against women, they won't let you have it,they will pay double what it costs in a shop just to beat you. |
