If you mean genuine 1970's insert ones (usually numerous differently shaped metal, with a circular sticker)

then I haven't got a problem with them. They're genuine 1970's badges, and I personally have quite a lot (and quite enough) Palace ones in my Palace badge collection that I won't be after any more. But each to their own.

If you mean modern matchday insert badges, eg

then I haven't got a lot of time for them. I'd not buy one off ebay, but I have occasionally bought them at away games when during a moment of weakness (usually alcohol assisted) I cannot resist it as it's been all thats available. Absolute tat though
I guess the 70's insert badges were the con of the time. Certainly wouldn' pay more than 2 or 3 quid for one nowadays.

Yeah, there does seem to be a lot. Most of them are junk, not worth paying more than one or two quid for.

A few of them are specific commemorative issues, and I could see club specific collectors paying a bit more for them, maybe up to a tenner if they want them enough. The better stuff is ones like I've pasted below

Haven't had a look at all the ones on ebay, however the following ones are decent and worth being in a collection just because they are not only very much 'of that time' but also that they can be specifically dated to an event or occasion.

I have been known in the past to see an insert badge of another club which I've liked (eg the one in the shape of a cup), and bought that badge, then also bought a very plain Palace one, and transplanted the Palace sticker onto the more attractive base. Cheating I know!
