Has anyone been to the Olympics?

I`ve been battling with decision making over the last couple of days wether to go to an event as I don`t live to far from London.

Emotions took over and I decided to try my luck online jumping into the scrum for tickets for anything. After a couple of hours of trying I managed to get a ticket for the Boxing at the ExCel on Wednesday 8th.

So I`ll now be able to say that I went to the London Olympics ! Thumbs Up

I managed to get a ticket for the BMX'ing semi-final and finals on Friday afternoon. Just wanted something in the Olympic park, really looking forward to it and happy to be apart of it.

May well get a British Medal with the young British girl.

Enjoyed every minute of the Olympics and the travelling through Stratford has been bearable.

Happy to be a part of it.

I have had an incredible experience, started with road race in my home town, crowds amazing! Then boxing at the excel, great photo opportunities with the Dutch, then beach volleyball, rather bizarre as the Olympics meets Wakt Disney meets queens England. Views over horse guards parade were amazing. I then walked 5 miles to see Bradley Wiggins in the time trial is cycling was effortless. Having not felt olympiced out I then went to the athletics - sensational, an incredible atmosphere from a knowledgable and appreciative crowd, wherever you go people just seem chuffed to be experiencing life in the park. Then took the family to the Olympic park for the hockey, the crowds in the park was almost too overwhelming they reckon over 200,000 people plus in just one place but despite the queues for food toilets still very clean and those volunteers credit to them they have made the Olympics with their help and never ending spirit. We managed to get into the BA park live area to see the big screen and it was like Henman Hill all over again cheering on medallists, what was even more special was that there was a regular supply of kedallists being interviewed and some were so generous posing for photos and I managed to get done photos of my children with the medallists.
I will be finishing my olympicthon with the men's football final. I have managed to put up with the fact that there will be no family holiday this year but at least my family will always be able to say we were there.
I know some posters will knocked things but fair play to lord Coe he had the vision and by and large it paid off!

Hope you enjoy your BMX`ing...that`s the sort of thing I would have enjoyed. Yesterday was spent trying to get any tickets at an affordable price. Every time I tried to buy a ticket it had either gone or wasn`t available or other reasons. I know they were asking £450 for the womens beach volleyball ! I tried for Men`s Volleyball, Women`s Diving then suddenly tickets came up for the Boxing.

I chose my ticket for £55 for the 1/4 Finals tonight which is medium priced but the same ticket for the semi`s and Finals are a lot more.

Really looking forward to it. There`s 12 fights I think and with there being a British fighter, there should be a really good Olympic atmosphere can`t wait.

Forgot to mention the armed forces, they have been great, they welcomed me every time at the security gates and were real ambassadors for our country, dare I say that the local constabulary have been great too.
Before I get accused of being a plant by the government I will stop waffling, but as you can tell I am having a brilliant time![/u]

If I lived in London I would have booked the 2 weeks full. I think it's an event not to be missed and a joy to behold with the support anyone in a GB shirt is getting. It's always been said we like an underdog but boy how we just love being part of the event. The media have got it so wrong with concentrating on the negatives of losing and the winners. Nice to see us win but also nice to see we can enjoy the event.

Only been able to go to Manchester to see the football QF that was a great day out. Japan fans are total nutters !!

Just to add:

Taken from my report on the quest for the 92 thread:

'Brilliant scenes afterwards with the crowds mingling. As we head south in the pouring rain, we listen to Sheffield’s finest, ‘our Jess’ winning gold, and Mighty Mo winning the 10000 mtrs. They didn’t want it to end. I know the Olympics can divide opinion, especially when it comes to football. Well, criticize all you want, the boys loved everything about it, the ground, the atmosphere, the game, the feeling that they’d been to an Olympic event. Great day, great memories.'

First time I have been on the forum for about a month, because ... I have spent most of the last month as a volunteer at the Olympics!

I have been a NOC Assistant, which means that I have been an aide to a team, and have worked in the village from when the first team member arrived, on the 21st of july, until they all left on Monday. I was allocated to the Swaziland team, although being a German speaker, I had hoped for a German-speaking team! However, being one of only 3 assistants with the small Swazi team was an unforgettable experience, as I not only got to know the whole team well, got the feeling of pride watching "my" team compete, even though they were rank outsiders, but also I got to experience the games up close, and even got to some events, thanks to my accreditation, and team, who enabled me to catch some events. They may only have had three competitors but 2 of them smashed national records in their only race, and the third defied puddles to miss her PB by fractions. They had a wonderful experience and it was great to be involved with them, and the coaches, physios and officials. our duties consisted of driving them around when necessary, organising tickets, and visitors, getting them to ceremonies, interviews, and various events, and generally being "gophers" for the Chef de Mission and the team officials.

Being in the village, i saw lots of stars, too numerous to mention, but we were expected to be professional, and keep our distance, to help the athletes feel at "home" and be able to compete at their best, so I had to just carry on if Tom Daley walked by, or Sir Chris Hoy cycled past me on his way to the Dining Hall, as they did.

It was the most incredible privelege to be a small part of an incredibly successful games, and all the Gamesmakers like myself, played a big part, but the crowds were amazing, and the athletes were amazing, and the action was amazing. Seb Coe and his team did an incredible job, and it should have made the whole nation proud, regardless of how well team GB did. That was the icing on the cake, and to be there when Mo Farah won his second Gold was a privelege, and - after Aberdeen's triumph in Gothenburg in 1983 - the greatest sporting highlight of my sport-watching life.

I firmly believe it was the best Olympic games ever, and all involved should be very proud! Very Happy Ayatollah Easy

What a fantastic posting, you will tell from my previous post that I had one of the best 2 weeks of my life. I am still suffering from an Olympics hangover made all the worst by my wife taking me to ikea and lots of decorating!
Thanks to everyone who made my 2 weeks so memorable.

Been having a sort of Olympic handover this week, thanks god the football is starting. But having read that great posting I now feel as if I've missed a once in a lifetime experience.

Yours,

Mr Green with envy.
