not been on the forum for a while but thought id share a lucky escape

got broken into today, couple of bits got pinched as well as some binders of programmes

all set out in large book cases in the living room and labelled up they decided to take 1980's and 1990's binders, some I managed to salvage off the back lawn but majority of run I had from this period have gone

they obviously didn't know what was worth what as all the 40's 50's and pre wars still remain untouched.

Ive now took the decision to move them out of the house somewhere secure with little value to what remains.

isn't it annoying when you cant even feel secure in your own home!

worst still ive got to replace all whats gone.

Assholes, must be horrible to know some stranger has been through your stuff. A small consolation that they didn't take the more valuable things.

If you're looking to replace some 80s and 90s homes I have loads, cost of postage only to you mate, let me know what you might want. Paul.

yeah exactly, to be honest its shook me up abit as you also don't know if they will be back

theres little value to the ones they actually took bar the odd one, if if they check on the internet to see the value thinking they are worth something and realise they have missed a trick, too late they have been moved now any like, like you say assholes,

had the alarm upgraded tonight off a mate and having security lights in the back garden as its open field to the back where they got in.

Might be a good idea to post the police indedent number just incase they end up on ebay or are offered to one of the dealers on here.

Try not to let it spoil your life. Never had it happen to us prob because we've always had very loud dogs. In our last house both next doors and across the road where done on one night. Current house next door has been done so I expect I'm on a suspect list somewhere Smile

Good luck matey - I hope that they catch the bastards - unlikely, but you never know!

There was a case way back in the early 80s when someone on Nottingham (John...?) who published a mag for people to sell/auction records (those vinyl discs for our younger readers). He had his record collection stolen from his house - value at that time, from memory, £20-30,000!

Maybe some thought as to who can access photo pages for collections etc etc -there are some collectors on here with very valuable collections who put up links.............. great to look at........but...........

Hopefully yours was not a targeted robbery - scumbags all the same.

Commiserations, as you pointed out they never took your early stuff. It would seem therefore that it was not a targeted robbery, otherwise they might have known what was really valuable? It might be worth making up some sort of resume of what was stolen and forwarding it to all the dealers. Perhaps they will try to sell some, maybe not straight away, at a local(ish) boot fair. Incidentally, as one who used to be an insurance broker, collections are usually only insured on household policies for a small percentage of the total sum covered on the contents, unless specified separately. It's worth checking with your insurer as you could find that if a valuable collection is stolen, you might not get anything the value. Let's hope they catch the toerags.

Sad to hear your bad news. We were burgled once, since then we have put in two top notch alarms and a safe, all for about a grand.
£1000 is absolutely peanuts compared to having the piece of mind and knowledge that the scum probably won't return. I find people never take home security seriously as they think it'll never happen to them. And when it does it is devastating. I recommend a good alarm and safe to everyone.

If your house is in a remote area, or has a large rear garden, which isn't overlooked by neighbours/other houses, do NOT install sensor lighting, as they only attract Burglars.

(This information comes from the Burglars/Housebreakers themselves!!)

So, if you give them light to work under, they dont have to carry a Torch (One less item to carry, if they are going equipped!!).

The only lighting that works, is a system whereby the "sensor" is attached to a small internal alarm in your bedroom.
So if the lights outside are activated, you know about it.
There is nothing easier for a burglar, than providing him with light to work under, and you are blissfully sleeping unawares, as he steals all your pre-war programmes.

From a former CSI / SOC manager.
