I'd love to have all mine nicely sorted and organised in correct order on smart shelves. Apart from on folder of pre-war progs, I have to just squirrel them away in boxes under beds and in the back of cupboards.

One day.... Laughing

Answer to clsyorkshire question yes I am on the forum. The show was recorded by two four productions in August, September, and October 2012 at various locations I can’t say too much about the show as I am still under contract to two four productions until after the show is aired this Friday. What I can say is that I never set out to be a collector of programmes I just started my web site www.westbromwichalbionhistory.co.uk as a hobby as i have always been a big Albion fan and interested in History of my town.
As my nephew had already started a site about the town I thought I’d do one about the club. To support the cost of my site i sold a few programmes i had then after a short space of time when people began to show an interest in my site i was contacted by fans either selling or giving me programmes. That is how the collection grew.
So in answer to senior 82 remarked I’m not bothered about the amount I have as I never set out to collect them in the first place. ITV did not come and sort them out for me either.
To Dorking I wish mine were on nice shelves as well they are all in date order but in Folders and draws and boxes hence the need to store them for a short while.
Bazzabaggies. I didn’t buy any of the programmes from you and have never had any intention of selling them to you.
Very Happy

Not all Albion though. Like I said I never set out to collect them. Just a hobby that went out of control to pay for the site. History of the club is my passion. Love

Saw the programme John you did a good job, and i was glad to see you wearing the Albion badge throughout the programme.
Robert Adcock did value some of your programmes a bit low but he was truthfull with the 1970s onwards valuation. Ive tried to put some bulk programmes into his auction but he said it would be a waste of time..

I rent a garage nearby to where i live for £100 a year forget storage units at £2,000 a year

Just watched the programme John and I felt so sorry for you mate, I would be gutted the same as you. If my wife told me I had to keep only 20 of mine I wouldn't have a clue which 20 I would keep tbh. There again Swansea haven't been to any major finals yet( hopefully this year tho Clap )

My wife was complaining about mine as well, she doesn't understand until I told her I loved Swansea years before I loved her!!! So we have just had half the garage converted into my Swansea room which I will take pics of for the forum when I get over my double operation in 2 or 3 weeks. Could this be an option for you?

Good luck in selling or better still in keeping the programmes mate

Steve

Reminded me of the book "32 Programmes". Best book I've read on the hobby.

Loads of people collect things so it did seem a tad unfair. I noticed the ornaments didn't have to be gotten rid of?

Thank you all for your comments. Brilliant time filming it with the exception of one piece.
To Bazzabaggies Robert Adcock did not want to be there, and I must admit I was disappointed when I found out that he was going to be on having had quotes from him before when he appeared on the radio. Prior to the filming I had been asked if I knew any local dealers and I did give them your number and a couple of other local dealers but as Robert Adcock is an auctioneer I suppose they went for business rather than knowledge. On the day of the filming at Midlands Memorabilia owned by Danny Drewrey, (Great bloke except for his poor choice of team who wear purple, but we all have our crosses to bear), the production crew were half an hour late having popped for lunch on route getting stuck in traffic at the fort shopping centre, all Robert Adcock did was sit there looking at his watch and moaning that he would spend two hours filming for thirty seconds on TV. (Try doing 22 hours for 20 mins). Not once did he show any interest in the programmes, if he had he would have found the programmes from 1940s, 50s and early 60s in the storage boxes which on the show he said they were the ones to look for. When he did eventually cast an eye over the table there were a 1966 league cup final home and away programme, 1954 complete FA Cup run Chelsea, Rotherham, Newcastle, Tottenham, Port Vale and Preston. Complete 1968 cup run. 1954 Final programme with ticket and song sheet. Signed 1974 Jeff Astle programme with George Best signature, Jeff Astle programmes from his debut for Nott’s County his last match for County First and last games for Albion. Leeds United league cup 1965-66 season. You tell me how much you would value these individual programmes at and I’ll let you know what he offered. He is also a Blues fan which leads me to my next piece.
At the filming which wasn’t shown he was asked what to look for and he said 1940s war time single sheet programmes always fetch a good price and that he would love to get hold of some Birmingham City ones.
The film crew took me to Birmingham to meet the young lady who “up cycles” old furniture, she showed me a piece she was doing for someone who had worked at Austin since he was a lad, so she began picking out pieces form newspapers and old supplements relative to this person, cutting them up and sticking them and varnishing them on to the furniture. The end effect is really good. However in amongst the cuttings were a very large selection of 1940s single sheet Birmingham City programmes she had picked up for a couple of pounds on a car boot. You would have guessed by now what she had done with them, but be fair she did not like football knew nothing of programmes. There is a god!
The funniest piece on the show when Aggie said about my wife being house proud, had to change me trousers three times thought I was becoming incontinent. The brush has this way up on it. The duster comes with instructions. Thank god we have a dog dusting gets done when he wags his tail. She’s not as bad as the TV made out she was asked to play it up a bit. Bless her.
Thumbs Up

John good Write up. To be fair Robert only wants old items and gets a lot of time wasters especially on his phone in Radio programme.
I have 300,000+ programmes to sell and he suggested the tip, he does get good prices at his twice a year auction in Coleshill.

Selling prices I value
The 1968 complete FA Cup run at £75.
The 1954 FA Cup run with ticket £200
The 1966 LC Final Home+ Away £130
Leeds Away League cup £30 65/6
Peterboro Away LC 65/6 £40
Carlisle Semi 1969 £50
The Jeff Astle Testimonial signed by George Best + Others £60.

All the best Bazza

Thanks Bazzbaggies Robert Adcock valued 1966 League cup final home and away together £15 the pair. 1954 fa cup final £20 - £25.
Peterborough and Carlisle semi finals £5 each. Leeds United 1965 league cup £5. £60 for Jeff Astle George Best signed programme. So you can see why I wasn't very happy with his estimates, As Danny pointed out but again wasn't shown on tv some Individual special match programmes have a much higher value than Robert was saying who was just giving an overall estimate. Danny Drewer supplies genuine signed photos and knows the real cost of autographs he said around £100 - £125 for the George Best autographed programme, Roberts reply in the collectors world maybe in the world of auctions £60. Theres the difference. Recently sold the Leeds programme for £100.
Smile

I have no real interest in this other than to say there are a lot of people in this hobby who have grand idea.
I have known Robert Adcock for several years and look at his auctions.
Apart from that i have no other interest.
What i do know of him is that he is very serious and very methodical.
He regularly goes through every programme in a box just to make sure he doesn't miss anything.
I saw this thread and as he is not a member on this forum i thought he might like to know what was being said.
He has a completely different story to bcb.
What i think bcb didn't know is that the film crew gave him total access to the collection 24 hours before the event.
He went through the whole box and is adamant that the 1940's wartime were not in the collection.Pure and simple. And as i know the way he checks everything i believe him.
He tells me the highlight of what he saw was a post war 1940's Brentford v West Brom which as Barry will tell confirm it ain't worth much.
There was a reproduction 1950's cup final programme worth somewhere between nothing and 50p.
All the rest were dealer fodder usually offered in a box at a programme fair for 50p and again as Barry will confirm after the Sheffield fair they don't sell either.
As a Manchester United collector i think he got the George Best signature valuation correct as well.
I notice also that you have sold some of the items that he saw at signficantly more than he valued them.
I also notice that you are still offering these items on your website so either you have more than one of these valuable items or you haven't actually sold them or you haven't updated your website.
Robert tells me that you tried to come across as a man with no knowledge but clearly you are now coming across as something completely different with a website and your own opinion of what these are worth.
Not sure why you did the programme then unless it's the 15 minutes off fame thing!
Maybe bcb stands for black county bullshit but i don't know.
This hobby has enough idiots in it already
