FA Youth Cup 1965-66

I am trying to find out what games Everton played in the Youth Cup in this season. I have been through all programmes for that year and there is no mention of our involvement even though we were holders.

What I know about this years tournament is limited

Arsenal beat Sunderland in the Semi-Final, Sunderland beat Bury in their semi final.

If anyone has any info about any games for this season they may help me piece together where Everton were involved.

Any help would be appreciated

According to a list I have, Everton played Man Utd at home and also a replay away, assume we lost that one. Not really sure where I got the info though, it's on an old file for reserves and youth progammes that I have.

I thought that too, but I am sure that was 66-67. I have the programme for the replay, 12th December.

The Everton collection has this down as 65-66 but the teamsheet is dated December 66 which would make it a 66-67 game

Be hell of a coincidence, but the Everton collection claims to have programmes for FA Youth Cup 2nd round replay Everton v Man Utd 12/12/65 and 2nd round, Man Utd v Everton 6/12/66.

I have not looked but you may find reference to the Youth Cup games in the Club Minute Books for that season on the Everton Collection website. I think you can search which may shorten the process.

MUFC did not play Everton in the FA Youth Cup during 1965-6.

They played 2 matches away at Manchester City 13.12.1965 and at Liverpool on 17.1.1966.

They did play Everton on either side of 1965-6 firstly at Goodison on 8.12.1964 and again at Goodison 6.12.1966 and a replay at Old Trafford on 12.12.1966 which is correct information. United met Everton both home and away a number times in the 1950/s/1960's/1970's/80's/90's.

Do any Everton collectors know if there was a Youth programme produced for United's visit in season 1956-7 on 6.2.1957?

They are incorrect, I have a copy of the replay, its dated 12/12/66

Minute books only seem to be available until 1964!

my oldest Everton Youth Cup teamsheet is 60/1. I have never seen anything older than that. No to say they weren't produced.

I have just checked a bound volume I have from 53/4, there is a teamsheet in this for the United game October 24th, so it does seem to suggest there should be a teamsheet for the game you are looking for

As an aside I have just looked on WIKI at the team line ups for past FA Youth Cup Finals.

What is surprising is not the players who played in these finals who went on to be household names but the number of players who were never heard of again. Well worth a look.

I agree, I am pulling together details and team line ups for all Everton's game in this tournament, it is surprising how many of their best Youths don't go onto have a career in football.
