Any medal experts?

Just bought this Sunderland FC medal, any ideas what it is?
Not in best condition but still interesting.

Not surprised that it was made in Birmingham, loads of medals and badges from there.I guess the number is the makers' own i d reference. I looks to have a bit of residual enamel so once would have been quite a bright thing. It could have been'dump dug' which might account for the lack of enamel? Perhaps it was a memento which fans bought to wear, maybe hung from a watch chain, seems 1900's era so that might fit.

A watch chain medallion makes sense. Maybe worn by an official of the club? I'd love to have it restored to it's former glory.
