Many Thanks, I note that this programme was produced by the supporters club.

The previous round we (cardiff city) played them so it would be interesting to know if they produced anything for our match

Great site for any programme picture for clubs playing Liverpool in Europe.

Coming to this thread a bit late, but I'd be very dubious about the authenticity of that Ferencvaros-Liverpool programme which magically appeared in 2004 and looks incredibly sharp and modern in design.

Totally agree with Seand - the full write up from Liverpool in Europe website about this programme states

Hajra Fradi. 12 pages. 21 x 15 cm.
There was no official programme issued for this match. In January 2004 a previously unheard of issue was offered on eBay with the following description:-
‘… very rare programme from the match in the European Cup Winners Cup between Ferencvaros Budapest and Liverpool Football Club – played on November 5 in 1974. This is an issue from the Ferencvaros Supporter Andras Pinter (no official programme) with a print run from 50 copies – given out only for members of the Hajra Fradi Supporters Club Veszprem to all the matches in the European competitions between 1974 and 1976'.

Another copy of this programme appeared on eBay in May 2004. Two more copies appeared in 2009 from a seller in Germany. Subsequently, a number of copies have been offered for sale on eBay and at other auctions. We would be interested in further information on this issue.

One would assume from the comments made that one would have been printed for Cardiff, however it does seem like a big con and surely something would have surfaced in the 20 years after the game and not just in 2004 !!!!

Matt, there was definitely no programme for the Ferencvaros v Cardiff game. One would have turned up by now.

That programme screams fake to me, and the back story sounds a bit fanciful. Why only print 50 copies, why print any at all particularly as they weren’t renowned for programmes during that period and print technology wasn’t as it is now so presumably would have cost the supporters club a bit or cash, so why go to the bother?

Given it took 30 years for a copy to surface, and the amount of copies that have subsequently surfaced, it smells like a big smelly fish. Have any of the other “programmes” that were printed between 1974-1976 as claimed, surfaced?

As a Liverpool collector for years and years going back to the 70's, I personally don't think this programme dates from then. As mentioned previously, for just on 30 years, this was always a 'non issue' game amongst Liverpool collectors so very strange that 3 or 4 turn up on ebay around the same time a few years ago. In fact, it first appeared at a time when there were lots of 'pirate' issues being printed by a guy in Germany I think it was. Most it must be said, sold as pirates, but then one turned up for the Juventus away game in 65 with a similar description as the Ferencvaros issue. It has been established that that issue was printed early 2000's. Strange or sad thing is, I remember the Ferencvaros issues on ebay actually sold for pretty good prices!

I can confirm there was no programme for Ferencvaros Cardiff City as I was one of only 3 Cardiff City fans who made the trip and was mentioned in an article on the game by the late Tom Lyons of the Daily Mirror

I really can't stand all these fake programmes around now. Some time in 20/30 years time these 'unofficial' issues will start to be seen as the real thing just like this one. And the copies are a pain too. There do seem to be a lot of original rare programmes surfacing in Hong Kong of all places.

I don't know if anyone has dealt with these sellers on Ebay but I find it strange that all this rare stuff surfaces in the Far East.

Have to agree that this would point at being a recently printed fake. However, Leeds played against Ferencvaros in the 1967-68 Fairs Cup Final (played in September 1968 due to fixture backlogs I believe) and there was a newspaper issue for the game, green and white stripes on the cover. Leeds also played them in 1969-70 in the EC and as far as I am aware no issue was produced for the away fixture.

A couple of devil advocate points.... When did eBay really kick in as a global website, was it circa 2004? This is when I joined, I know people would have joined before but on a global scale this could be the approx time for the boom.
If only 50 were printed for a select group of supporters then they almost certainly would have not been sold to English fans on the day, could it be that the introduction to eBay allowed the Hungarian supporters access the means to sell to collectors in the UK (and beyond). 2004 was 30 years after the game, from a morbid point of view could it be that the original owners were starting to meet their owners and it was there children selling them?
Once a price is reached then other owners could become more inclined to part with the programme and cash in on it?

I still think the above mentioned programme is a fake, but thought i'd pose the points above.

I paid £400 for a previously unheard of Hungary v Republic of Ireland 1969 on ebay a few years back. The same seller subsequently sold 3 more although the last one went for £30.

Never saw another since.

I was only discussing it last week with a fellow collector. I was sceptical but convinced by it. poor quality paper photos of Irish players I'd never seen. appeared to be letterpress. I will examine it carefully again.
