Man Utd reserves v Sydney Olympic, 4/11/1981.

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/3006.....1423.l2649

I've only seen 3 copies of this in around 6 years of collecting, and although quite scarce the oher 2 didnt sell for this much.

I think the bidding will go through the roof late on, and who would bet against another one turning up on Ebay a week or 2 after?

Watching with interest.

Didnt sell because they may have been the re-prints which look identical except for the typeface on the team line ups. The original is as the ebay item on offer, the copy has the teams in BOLD TYPEFACE.

Ded givaway when u know isnt it.

Conversely the other two may have been genuine copies but didnt get a look in at that time-it happens. WHY DIDN'T YOU BUY THEM?

There's a time for each new addition Leslie!

Like I said, another one will be along shortly, more than likely anyway, and it wont go for nearly as much, my opinion only.

I've added some good items to my own collection so far this year, as I said I was going to in another thread! Very happy with what I've obtained already since and including the new year fair in London.

How is your collection coming along Leslie?

I think your dreaming!

Ten years ago one sold privately for a figure around £350-400.

Why will another one sell for less then?. There will be an underbidder and an underbidder to the first underbidder-if another one comes along soon they will both make sure they are not underbidders again or disappointed surely?.

Me-never better!buying something most days, now we are in the Auction season one tomorrow and 2 more in the next few days-one or two interesting bits and pieces but not for me[is that Fergie reverse phsycology then?]

We will see Leslie, the underbidder here is the only other bidder, so if another turns up soon and nobody else is interested, it will sell for £2 less than this one by you very own theory.

Either way its an interesting programme, but one that I dont think is as rare as perhaps the prices fetched in the past would have you believe.

what is that based on then? i have been collecting 50 years and i would not presume to make such a comment, ur entitled to your opinion of course like all of us but there has to be some basis.

still got 16 hours to run and some of the bigger buyers are waiting to snipe it perhaps.
Your theory is totally flawed and is based on no one really wanting to bid if it ever turns up again-why dont you bid? why didnt you buy the other two years ago?if your looking for some old boy to put a box in the oxfam shop so you can pick it up for a fiver those days are long gone now that ebay is around, Oxfam shops are ON THE NET SELLING, and the days of Barry Swash finding over 60 Walsall Town Swifts from the 1890's for the price of a wild night out in Walsall are long gone i reckon, will ever happen again, and if it has i have not heard about it.

Anyother interested parties will be watching and waiting-when there is an idiot bidder that all sellers die for who has made 12 out of 13 bids and is getting exasperated he will either stop this nonesense now or go for one big bid at the end or another crap bidder will turn up equally as inexperienced and look to move into the lead.

Any serious bidder will wait until the last few seconds, if they offer enuff they get it as no one can come back with 3 secs to go unless their snipe carries a higher offer.

Then there is me-who is to say i wouldnt mind a small punt at it-i know more collectors who do not have it than do, there are one or two others for surewho will perhaps maybe make a last minute bid then look to use it to extract something out of another collector at a later date.

All supposition I wish the seller well he is an old collector colleague and he probably got two at the match and has decided to turn one into a few quid-why ever not!

Seller's a true gent. I stayed at his house the weekend of David Howgate's last Southport Fair, and he has an amazing collection of United programmes and memorabilia. Good night out on the real ale in Southport on the Saturday night with him and some other Sandgrounders.
