With Rangers & Pompey going into administration, I wonder who be next ?
Nobody cares about pompey, after all its the 2nd time in 2 years, although I would had thought the football league are suppose to control the purse strings at Fratton Park..........Mmmm
Bur 'Rangers', they are a big club, great support etc
Who's Next ?????
Football needs to get back to basics, If you cant afford to pay cash up front for a transfer, you dont buy the player.
If you cant afford their silly wages, ya dont pay it.......
Football has to wake up..... I wonder if 'Sky's' money has been good for the game or not....

There are rumours up here that the Rangers Tax case is being used as a test case. If HMRC are successful a number of high profile Premiership Clubs may be next.............. |

I wish I had kept an article from the Daily Telegraph when Sky won the Premiership contract which said it would be the death knell for many Clubs - the rich would get richer and the rest would disappear one by one.
Also an interesting bit on Five Live last night which confirmed that four or five previous "owners" still owned a piece of Pompey! Because of that and the fact that the Club now has little infrastructure does not make an attractive proposition for any potential buyer.
Finally, credit to the number of Pompey fans for making the round trip to Blackpool for a 1720 kick off last Saturday and their constant support. |

I feel really sorry for Portsmouth.
They are a traditional well supported club that has been abused by money men trying to make a quick buck.
Rangers however I have less/no sympathy, the whole essence (it's right wing affiliations) of the club is something I'm against.
Rangers for too long has exploited the smaller clubs, buying up there best players for nothing, while at the same time as paying continental players who never get a game 50k a week. |

Didnt Portsmouth take Dave Kitson on loan paying 20k per week whilst just coming out of administration ? |

Portsmouth were never going to be able to pay back their debts even after coming out of admin last time, unless they got promoted back to the Premier League (which was unlikely at best)
Rangers - looks to me like they've realised they're going to lose the case against HMRC and they can't afford the tax. Although they've been haemorraging cash for years.
Hearts can't be far away either and i'd be worried if I was a Forest fan.
It's like pompeypete says, if you ain't got the cash, don't spend it. I'm pretty sure we'd all like to buy a very expensive old programme, but if you choose to buy that instead of paying the mortgage you'd have problems. Quite why some teams still try to chase the rainbow is beyond me. |

You could be right, but part of the conditions of coming out of administration was that the Football league would oversee transfer / wages so the same thing couldn't happen again. ie Not live beyond your means.........
They have failed, Pompeys owners have failed
Conference league here we come....... _________________ RESPECT..................

To be honest I don't think the Football League should control teams finances. If a professional football team needs help on how to spend/account their money then they shouldn't be in the league. |

The Pompey saga also makes a mockery of the "fit and proper test" for owners. It seems to be the Football League guys who need the test. |

The current Pompey/Rangers situation may be just the start of a number of big name clubs getting into trouble. As the "recession" bites, gates continue to fall etc more and more clubs are going to find it difficult.
It appals me how the football authorities only step in when a club is in trouble. How can a 10 point deduction, invariably leading to relegation, help a club in trouble? What are these people being paid for if not to look after the interests of its members. Where is the corporate governance whereby the FA/FL ensure clubs are up to date with NI/HMRC payments etc? It seems that the Conference are way ahead of the game when it comes to ensuring clubs are being run properly. They do conduct checks re NI/HMRC payments etc.
Equally, club owners/chairmen should make a stand against ridiculous demands from players/agents and inflated transfer fees. Why can't football follow other sports in having a salary cap. Transfer fees should be paid upfront in full not over 3/5/10 years mortgaged against future ticket sales etc.
Finally. the "fit & proper" test is an absolute joke. How is Peter Ridsdale still involved in the game? (currently at Preston)
Why was Ken Bates allowed to put Leeds into administration and then buy the club back again? - farcical!! |

Todays interview on Talksport of DMac the Peterborough owner summed up why Pompey are in the shit. Posh tried to sign centre half Pearce from Bournemouth and offered wages of 3.5k per week, the only other club to try and sign him were Pompey who offered him 7k a week. Was it really necessary to throw that kind of cash to a player who only had one other offer in his pocket, yes offer him more by all means but the double it sums up how finances have been run at Fratton Park.
Yes feel for the Pompey fans who i believe are some of the best supporters in the country, they sure know how to cheer on their team.
Football sold its soul for money when Sky came along, the fans were no longer important as the money was being provided by Sky. Clubs need to learn to live within their budget as I believe Peterborough are, we would be even better off if we dint pay Barry Fry his wage. |

I feel so sorry for the supporters of these clubs as we at Swansea have been in similar positions twice over the last 20 odd years. Its the supporters that suffer, giving up their hard earned cash week after week and as we all know most of us support clubs that our fathers supported so it goes back for years.
Maybe its a different subject but i read an interview with Keith Andrews after his move to West Brom from Blackburn. He was asked if the rumours were true that the Venkys didn't think they could get relegated from the premiership and he thought it was true!!! I was gobsmacked, how the hell can a business man put millions into a venture and not know the downfalls of owning it ?!?!
Makes you wonder why these business men put money into clubs really, i feel we will lose more clubs over the next couple of years, i'm just glad the Swans are being run correctly ( I hope!!) |

Pompey are in the shit. Posh tried to sign centre half Pearce from Bournemouth and offered wages of 3.5k per week, the only other club to try and sign him were Pompey who offered him 7k a week
Did you deliberately leave out the bit that Posh were going to pay 500k for Pearce and it then came to light that Bournemouth had to pay Pompey a 50% selling on fee from when he went there from us as a 16 year old.
That is why we only paid 300k to get him back which incidentally was at a time when anyone and everyone believed the takeover that had just taken place (Antonov) was the start of our troubles finally starting to end.
Who was to know at the time that we would be back to square one within 6 months. Did you know that the owner was going to be had up for money laundering last november? If so then you are the only one that did.
The transfer of Jason Pearce has got nothing to do with us being in our current predicament. |
