The earliest known Royal Arsenal programme is 30 March 1891 against Heart of Midlothian. The club had one hanging up in the marble halls at Highbury.

7/9/1912 - Halifax Town v Doncaster Rovers Vol 1 No 1 (first programme printed by Halifax Town in their second season)

Huddersfield Town's earliest known issue / first programme was for their first league match in 1910. Vol 1 No 1. I have forgotten who the opposition were but got outbid on this programme last year so it definately exists. It sold for £1400. The previous earliest known was Huddersfield v Hull City 2.1.1911 Vol 1 No 10.

Accrington Stanleys is 12/2/1921 in the Lancs Comb against Morecambe

Hartlepools is 12/2/1910 Durham Senior Cup 3rd Round Replay against Spennymoor

Burnley's 1st official issue was against Glossop North End for the opening game of the 1912/13 season - and I've got it! Smile

There is an issue extant for a reserve team home game against Manchester City in 1909/10, but this was not issued by Burnley FC - perhaps the earliest known pirate??

I also have a Sheffield United v. Burnley from November 1899 but I'm sure the Blades have earlier issues than this.

Chelsea's earliest issue was Volume 1 No.1 for a friendly played against Liverpool at Stamford Bridge on the 4th September 1905.

Liverpool issued from their first friendly in 1892. No real details to hand, but I believe there was a programme for Liverpool's first ever game, home to Rotherham 1-Sep-1892 and most subsequent games that season.

Just browsing through this months Graham Budd`s auctions and came across a Brighton Athletic v Eastbourne programme from the 17th of October 1896 not sure if theres any connection with them and Brighton & Hove Albion also a Notts County v Burslem Port Vale programme played at Trent Bridge 26th February 1895, seems to be some good "bits `n` bobs" on auction if your a Man UTD Burnley or Spurs collector (with very deep pockets!!).

Didn't Programme Monthly run a series of articles a few years back on Earliest Known Issues?

Would be good if the current editors could update this article?? or we could replicate it here?

I've found evidence of earlier Royal Arsenal programmes than the one against Hearts in March 1891.

The newspaper report below comes from the Kentish Independent dated 4th October 1890.

The match it is reporting on is:
27 September 1890 Royal Arsenal v London Caledonians

The article gives the impression that this wasn't the first game for which programmes were produced but we can't say for sure so the London Caledonians is the oldest known programme.

Three games involving the Rams in that top ten list........does that make us the most collectible club around?

I wish Smile

Could the Sheff.United v Celtic 1898 programme on sale at the moment be the oldest known programme involving Celtic ?

Not a very accurate list going off programmes sold at other auction houses in recent years, there would only be 5 left on that list if it were totally accurate,
