I see there are some very impressive lots in the Cameo auction on the 6th September

Just checked the website and some of the listings. The estimated price (plus 35% Commission/VAT) look overpriced. Quite a few of the items listed, particularly FA Cup Finals, are readily available on EBay.

What do others think?

As far as I can see Seller's Commission is 20% + VAT and buyer's commission is 15% + VAT.

As with all general auctioneers some of their estimates seem to be off the mark.

Lot 8 made me chuckle, good condition?

The commission is not 35% as confirmed by previous post.
This auction will contain some items that sellers have put in at 0% for sellers for those that gave in £2500 of stock to sell as part of a special deal with cameo hence some nice items to be had.[/u]

When is 15% as buyer plus 20% VAT not 35%?

20% VAT only applies to the 15% buyers premium aspect. I think the 20% you are referring to is the commission taken by the auction house from the vendors proceeds. Buyers at the auction pay 15% + VAT on the premium which I think we would all agree is enough!

Yes, in effect you as a buyer are paying 18% on top of the hammer price.

OK - understood, you only pay 20% VAT on the 15% premium! Still 18% extra on top pf the hammer price is still significant when the estimates are generally on the rather high side.

The commission rates are similar to most auction houses these days and I must say, I've always found Cameo reliable and helpful, and are good to deal with.
Tony, their football guy, came up to Hull to collect some of my collection for sale - downsizing as I'd collected too much - and I am one of those who have taken advantage of their offer to sellers of no seller's commission. Some of my stuff will go into their next auction (a very good Euro finals collection, including some rarer ones such as Kiev Super Cup & 64 European Final and others) as there were already some Euro finals in the auction, but if you spot any Aberdeen stuff, some annuals and other odds and sods such as World Cup covers, they are from me and have been collected over the years, but needs must and so they are down at Cameo now!
Happy Bidding,
hulldon

There's some lovely motor sports posters that look tasty, and with a very reasonable guide price.
