I am talking buyer and seller.
You cannot tell me that any serious collector, with
cash to burn is not going to make a massive bid for
something that is deemed to be rare.
Didn't somebody pay £1,800 for a 62-3 Chelsea v Leeds
postponed a few weeks back.
One guy said earlier, it was postponed so no game,
but I would think if you did a straw poll on here, over
90% of us collectors will salivate when seeing an
unknown postponed issue from your particular club
that suddenly hits the market.
Guilty as charged here...Don't tell the missus though. Shocked

"You paid how much for a single sheet of paper?"

I can't help but be reminded of the joke following the Chilean miners' rescue about watching them come out Juan by Juan ...

Bert, does that mean only a 4 pager for the New Years Day game against Hayes?

don't forget that although it is only a piece of paper you are buying the fact is that you are buying it with a piece of paper.

I like this one. Postponed match - not £40 only £6

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/63-64-BU.....45f78e7703

Well it's not £6 either, as there are more than one bid.

As the game was never played, is this a surprise ? Laughing

In fact, it turns out only a single A4 sheet, with the teams on one side and an advert on the other, was issued today and it'll be the same for Saturday.

Meanwhile we have the programmes from two postponed home fixtures going to waste. I suggested if the "team-sheet" had been done properly it could have been used as a surrogate cover for the postponed games issues, but it seems to have fallen on deaf (or "office closed over Christmas") ears.

Shame on us. Crying or Very sad

That's even worse! surely arrangements can be made with printers that they provide some sort of service over the Xmas period, I mean we do have 3 working days between now and Saturday to knock up and print a 12 pager or better.

Looks like some people at the club are just not interested/can't be bothered, which is a shame. As you say, the postponed issues with a teamsheet wrap around could have been sold for a quid today and some of the losses recouped.

That reinds me of a Man Utd v Norwich 78/79 postponed programme i saw for sale a little while back, went for about £400 if I remember right, must have been called off the day before and all issues "destroyed" yet this one had the crossword filled in!!

By the way, what is the opinion on here of this Chelsea v Utd p/p now? There seems to be more and more appearing on Ebay as the days go by, they continue to go for £60/£70 and more now for £50 buy it now. Where is this going? I'm alright as someone didnt see what they were going for before selling them Wink

I counted 11 " Rare " Chelsea v Manchester United programmes on ebay at the moment, all going for above £10. Is this panic buying from novice collectors or are they all well informed fans that know this is a rare one? Only time will tell. It's going to be interesting to see how many of these turn up over the next few weeks . A lot of people could end up feeling pretty stupid.

My theory is this. Look at the Arsenal site. They know people collect postponed programmes. They say , yes we have copies for sale, come along help yourself. Now no one knows this at Chelsea FC ??? All the programmes are immediatley locked up ??? All of a sudden they appear on ebay , drip drip drip. Someone somewhere is taking collectors for a ride. If i were a Chelsea fan i'd be going mad. I'd hate to think this is a deliberate policy to rip off fans. But it looks that way to me.

Just looked at ebay and after typing in "postponed"...about 260 results show. Loads ol programmes from recent postponed games including homes from Chelsea, Blackpool, AFC Wimbledon, Hull and loads more from different seasons. Some of the prices are shocking. This could be another angle for collectors in only collecting postponed games.

You would have to have VERY DEEP pockets to specialise in Posponed matches I think ???

You would also need to have extensive knowledge . Some are very common and some are impossibly rare, it would be easy to get ripped off. I see the Chelsea v Man.Utd programme is still reaching the £70 plus mark. Looks like some clever people are drip feeding them on to the market. I wonder when the tap is turned off?

On a smaller scale, Grimsby had a couple of postponements over the xmas period. One of the games was at home to Rushden & Diamonds. One appeared on ebay and went for £3.70 despite the progs not being released for sale by the club (so I am told).
They did tell me that the original prog (with an update insert) will be sold when the rescheduled game is played. So, somebody purchased what they thiought was a unique item, which will turn out not to be, The same person will then be on the lookout for the insert, as what they have got will then become an incomplete item.

Regarding the Chelsea Man Utd prog, what would happen if the original was sold with an insert....would be some pretty peeved of people out ther.

There was a comment made in Programme Monthly by an experienced collector that I took note of several years ago.
"The scarcity of a current season issue cannot be known until at least 6 months after the match"
I think ebay has brought that time scale down, but I still wouldn't pay high prices in the few weeks after a match. In most cases after the intial excitement the programmes drop in value.More often than not someone will have a good supply of the postponed programme that eventually reach the market.

In the case of the never played Scunthorpe v Maidstone match in 91/92 due to the visitors folding, a box of them was unearthed only a couple of years ago and they were selling for the knockdown price of around £5.
