I wonder what others would do in this situation. Say for example , you collect two categories of programmes, lets say your teams home and away and FA Cup finals since the war. Now lets say your team played in three cup finals. When you come to store them, would you store the cup finals under Aways or Cup Finals? Or would you try and obtain two copies, one for each section. Or does it matter at all , and i'm just being silly???

Hi mate,

I've got the same problem, I collect Sheffield Wednesday v Sheffield United and I'm trying to get every League Cup match that Wednesday have played.
We've played United 3 times in the League Cup.
If the programmes are not too expensive you could get another copy them, depends how many you need as well.
I think thats what I might do to be honest.

Cheers, Russ.

I would store by date. Homes aways, cups all mixed in but ordered sequentially.
Sorry, have I just given you a lot or work to do... Laughing

Your description fitted my circumstances precisely until I stopped collecting cup final programmes.

Collected my clubs home and aways and cup finals since the war. My team played in 3 post war FA Cup finals.

At the time I had a set in my Blackpool binders and a set in my finals binder.

But it doesn't really matter as long as you have them and you know where they are.

One of the features of collecting is that we are all collecting similar things but probably listing, storing, recording etc in hundreds of different ways.

For meCup Finals are Aways simply because they are NOT home games. Aways and Neutral are Aways for me.

Simple reasoning is I have always collected homes - I go to these games (and only a handful of aways). Like many on here I was brought up on the staple diet of home games. When I came round to collecting I already had a large home collection and then had this pile of aways of all different shapes and sizes...

Then later I separated the aways into League and various Cup categories, plus Reserve, Youth, Friendly, Local... that sort of thing in date order - in an attempt to close any gaps of a particular type (such as Cup runs).

Surely 2 categories are enough - homes and non-homes effectively.

Nod Totally agree!

I have all Homes from one season in one folder, All non homes in another for first team games (so including friendlies).

My reserves and youth games however as they are normally only little issues are at the moment in folders just spanning 5 year periods and including homes and away in the same folder.

I think there's a wee element of compulsiveness creeping in here? It's the same as folk who won't walk on cracks in the pavement, unless it's Thursdays - of course - in a month with an "R" in it. Me? I'm taking up crochet.....

Rubbish. I'm only asking how to store programmes. The fact that i have to tap three times on the table and turn around before i take a programme out of it's folder does not mean i'm a nutter... Ayatollah

In all seriousness , i collect north east non league teams and try and get one programme from every club in the country 1963/64 season, including non leagues. So if i have a Gateshead 1963/64 season programme, where do i stick it ?..... now now, no rude answers , please.

Your 1963-4 north eastern non league folder, one per club, perchance?

I like to keep a piece of pie crust from all the scotch pies I've ever had the misfortune to eat in the last 20 years. When I've got enough I intend to build a 1/200 scale model of the Sidney Opera House. Does this make me a borderline Broadmoor admission case, or should I be policy making in the coalition government?

I think you need a lot of folders mate. I'd certainly not go down the route of buying a programme two or three times just because I've got different folders where they could go. That's not to say I don't buy on impulse on ebay some times when I see a bargain and only realise I've got it when I go to put it with other items in the office when it arrives in the post.

How about a colour scan for your other folders?

You may have to if you come from the Shetlands.. they are just about to delete knitting from the national curriculum.

A very good point ....unless you collect a club thats in a Final every other year or more than one Final ..... I collect Rugby League ...Oldham in particular .... and all programmes as far back as possible ( and they HAVE been in a few finals over the years, but not that many ) so in my Finals collectin I have a copy and in my Oldham collection i also have another copy ..... simple as they are 2 distinct collections .... If I ever wanted to sell up ( I also collect FA and League Cup Final's and Semi's) whoever bought the collection would not be happy with one missing ....thats the way I look at it anyway ...and waht the helll is the point of collecting Finals and having one missing as its in the Club collection ...... ???
