Fleetwood away in 1986 is arguably Bolton's rarest programme of the 1980s.There was an advanced Bolton collector who advertised this as a want on his ebay listings.
I haven't seen one before, it is a double issue for another friendly with Motherwell.
The match is infamous for there being crowd trouble, with Blackpool fans heading up the coast for a scrap with Bolton fans at the match.I don't know if that has anything to do with the lack of programmes though!
I suspect the seller will get a good price.

I don't have a clue how much it's worth other than more than most other 1980s friendlies.
As I said an advanced Bolton collector had it as a want and would no doubt have paid good money or offered a generous swap.
The guy in question had spares of the extremely rare 63/64 Stoke v Bolton League Cup tie and a friendly Bolton played against Man U in Ireland so for him not to have the Fleetwood programme suggests there aren't many about. |

Stunned.
The easy to find Bristol Rovers away in 86/87 went for 9 quid last week and the friendly at Fleetwood only raised £3.88?
I've still not got one though. |

It wasn't available as a buy it now.The auction ending at £3.88 doesn't guarantee I would have won it with even a £40 bid.
Knowing who wants it put me off bidding because they would bid a silly amount that I couldn't match, as did the poor photo, two word description of its condition and the fact it was a private auction. |

What a bizarre theory. If you don't buy a ticket, you can't win the raffle. |

totally agree with the above, just because you believe someone else will pay more than yourself is no reason not to bid, as for the description and the picture you could have asked for more info, the seller who is a decent genuine guy is a contributor to this forum and would have given you all the info you required. |

What with this scenerio & a previous poster quibbling because a dealer dare make a pound note profit on a programme (Chesterfield v Direby)....it beggars belief!!! |
What also beggars belief is your arithmetic that leads you to conclude that selling a £2 programme for £5.99 equals a £1 profit. |

Alright, got your calculator to hand? Here we go:-
Chesterfield v Direby programme
Seller bought from Chesterfield FC
Purchase price @ £2
p&p rates @ £1.65 (as stated by a forum member, 3 progs at £5)
Total = £3.65
To sell on eBay
Buy it now @ £4.99 +
p&p rates @ £1.00 +
eBay listing fees @ 5p - (listing charge is 20p, but seller had multiple items)
eBay commission charge @ 50p -
paypal fees @ 40p -
envelope @ 40p -
actual postage charge @ 96p -
Total paid out by dealer = £5.96
Total received by dealer = £5.99
So in real terms the seller actually made nothing on this product! Don't go bleating about dealers / sellers ripping folk off when you claims are incorrect!! Without such people selling to us, our collections would be alot less in size/quality. |

I don't know the true maths as we don't know for sure how much russ actually paid for the prog (plus p&p if he had them sent to him). However what I would say is that his profit after costs plus ebay fees plus paypal fees is likely to be no more than a quid or quid fifty maximum. Which is hardly excessive.
Even if he made three quid profit my view is so what. The guy made the effort to get hold of them, list them and then send them to buyers. He is not a charity. What is the point of making the effort for no profit ? I am sure he has better things to do with his time. He is providing a service and the least collectors can do is recompense him for his time/effort.
On top of that is the overall principle of how many eBay sellers don't try and make a profit ? None that I know. I am sure even those complaining about this instance would look to sell items at a profit to what they paid. After all what is the difference between buying a 1940s programme for £20 and trying to sell it for £25 or £30 ? Absolutely no difference.
Finally, as always the collector has a choice. If they think price is too much then go ahead and find it cheaper elsewhere. Although as pointed out many collectors thought price was reasonable. |
