Favourite Player From Your Team?

I found these two letters in my box of stuff. A fan must have written to famous people asking them to name their favourite player . Dickie Davies went for Arsenal’s Dennis Compton, Sir Philip Carter picked Alan Ball. I have seen some greats at Goodison during the days when Everton had some great teams,, Alex Young, Alan Ball and the rest. When l was a kid, however, my local team ,Tranmere , had Dave Hickson playing centre- forward for them. It was during that bad winter of 1962-63 . He didn’t play much after that, his career coming to an end. If pressed, I would have to pick Dave as my favourite. He was always in the thick of the action . What made him really stand out was the fact that if he didn’t score , he would probably have a punch-up with the opposition centre-half ( nothing too serious!) at some stage in the game. Off the pitch, a quiet mild mannered gentle bloke, on it a warrior.
