Hi all just received a old programme in the post and this came with it dated 1978 from clarksons Whitman rd Scunthorpe looking for old progs don't know if they were a shop or household any scunny collectors shed any light on this regards Jim

There is (or was) a chap called Clarkson (Phil?) who bought and sold programmes and cigarette cards etc for years, I didn't know him at all but saw his name everywhere - think he came from Lincolnshire.

As soon as i started reading this, i thought the same as Pete, Paul rings a bell for me as well.

Paul Clarkson traded under the name of Matchday Programmes. I frequently bought programmes from him from late 70's until he moved to to football cards before retiring. He also produced a couple of booklets on programmes which I previously owned but I can't recall what they were called.

Was wondering how a drafted note turned up in a auction programme 43 years after he wrote it ? I'll be keeping it though as it's a bit of collecting memorabilia in itself

By the way Jim lfc do like your picture denoting your euro cup wins closest we could do would be visits to Wembley lol but yes very smart

I met Paul once when I called at his house, after he moved to Brigg, to pick up an order of a number of Rotherham programmes and to see what he thought of a few assorted old progs I had brought. I remember one of them was Blackpool v Manchester Utd from sometime in the forties. Can't remember why I called there as I don't think this was something Paul usually encouraged, I might have been on my way to Beverley races, but it had been agreed in advance of course.

Paul was always a pleasure to deal with and appeared to be doing alright at the game as he had a new car in the garage, it must have been around the beginning of August. His only obvious fault seemed to be that he told me that his personal interest was in Sheffield Wednesday programmes.
