Liverpool v Portsmouth 1st Division 1950-51 Ticket.

I recently acquired a Liverpool v Portsmouth Ticket from the 1950-51 season dated 28th April 1951. (Ticket details Football League Division 1).
The ticket has Guest stamped across it.

I checked the records and Pompey’s away league game against Liverpool that season actually took place on the 10th February 1951. (Liverpool won 2 v 1). Can anyone share any light on why this Ticket’s Date is different from the actual date the game was played? Is it the case Guest tickets were printed in advance of the game and the date for the game was brought forward? I know the weather was bad in February 1951 as Pompey’s away game at Fulham originally scheduled for the 17th February 1951 was postponed due to bad weather and rescheduled for the 2nd May 1951. Did Liverpool print tickets on the off chance the game was going to be called off?

April 28th was F.A. Cup final day in 1951
Maybe the game was brought forward accordingly?

Phil,

Liverpool away was set to be played 28th april looking at the fixtures
from a early season programme list.

10th feb was listed as FAC 5th round so I can only assume they bought forward the match as both pompey & liverpool had been knocked out in previous round.

28th april just happened to be cup final day

bringing the match forward allowed the players / chairman a good day out.

Many thanks for your replies that makes sense now! Beginning to build a collection of tickets from the late 40’s, early 50’s.....where the game never seems to have been played on the advertised date!!! Stay Safe everyone.
