This link was sent to me a few months ago and its a very cheap way of sending upto 10kg of programmes etc
http://www.collectplus.co.uk/send/eBay-traders.php
It means taking to your local store and making sure the person who is receiving has a local store also. Every packet i have sent or looked at , there are stores within a mile, often more than one. Your need to pay on line and print the label, but far cheaper than Royal Mail and you can track on line. Takes about a week to arrive but had some taken only a few days.
Or for upto 20kg and collecting from your door, look at
http://www.parcel2go.com/?refe.....ion=myebay
Used DHL alot on this and about £8 which for 20kg is very cheap
Finally also used this for overseas bulky packages and the savings compared to Royal Mail are great. On one instance Royal Mail actually collected the package for about 1/3 cheaper than the Post Office prices
No skin of my nose and i dont work or belong to these firms but we are all after saving money on "rip off postage" so you may find these useful |

Another nail in the coffin for Royal Mail but if you think about it , it's not cheap and you'll loose out in the long term. I mean most collectors will buy one programme at a time so they are not going to pay 3.99. The point is Royal Mail will one day have to get people to pay the true cost of sending a letter then the programme you bought from the guy in Scotland will not cost 38p or whatever it is but about a fiver. And if you live out in the sticks then forget it. In the end you'll have to use companies like this because it's not cost affective to deliver to rural areas. To be honest if you think sending a programme from London to Glasgow for 38p is a "Rip Off" i'd love to live in your world... |

What I don't understand is if I take a package to the post office they will quote say 70 quid if it's 25kgs. But I can send that for 12 quid using an online company. Either way the royal mail's service delivers the item I've found in the past.
So they a bloke in a van picks it up and the RM deliver for 12 quid.
I have to go to the PO and the RM delivers - cost at least double the above I've found. |

The point i'm making is the cheap cost of the letter is subsidized by all the other bit the Royal Mail makes profits on. People look around for cheap this and that but at the end of the day, no other company delivers what most on this forum want, and that is a cheap letter delivery service. If i want to buy a 1963 Sunderland v Leeds programme for 50p i don't want to pay £5 for postage. You may save a pound on the odd parcel ok but in the end the public will loose out.. |

The public will lose only because the Royal is run for profit and not for service. If you look back on th Royal over the last five years their prices have increased perhaps ten fold yet their service has been cut back by perhaps 50% with less delivery rounds and few post office.
I have every respect for the RM workers, those that work and the post office staff, those they care to do their job well. But the public are now being ripped off, its as simple as that. |

Thought i was doing people a favour !! - I totally agree with the principles of the Royal Mail. My postie is great and so are the guys in the sorting office. For basic postage, special delivery etc, thats fine. But £4 for 10kg is great. I buy magazines and programmes for a guy in Greece. The price via Royal Mail was around £45 but the courier about £28 !, so what do you use. I am not knocking using Royal Mail and i am in the post office every day, but sometimes in our hobby the price of postage is more than the items sent, so if a little can be saved, well its good enough for me. |

You can't blame people for trying to get the best price possible, i'm just pointing out the lunacy of the situation at the moment. The Royal Mail have to by law deliver to every address and the price of a stamp is impossed on them whilst all the time other firms ( mainly foreign) can cheery pick the best parts of the business and take the profits . It's an insane situation . Looking at it from our hobby point of view it's a worry as in years to come the price will have to rise. |
