Speedy winger who played for us Pompey and then via a brief loan spell at Aldershot at the six toes.

A good player from what I recall, the sort who would never get above 2nd Division level but who made full backs' lives very difficult, including Palace's!

Nicky was one of a group of players who went from Plymouth to Pompey around that time.

Others I remember were Norman Piper, Richard Reynolds and who could ever forget Mike Trebilcock (via Everton).

There was not much of Nicky but he always gave of his best.

Very sad news.

He played in the first game I ever saw at Fratton Park, against Sunderland in November 1970, and scored both goals in my second game, two weeks later, in a 2-2 draw against Hull City.

I met him briefly when he was inducted into the Pompey Hall of Fame in 2014, and obtained his autograph.

He could not believe that so many people remembered him, and was in tears when he collected his award.

A lovely man. RIP.
