I'm afraid I don't even know scorer Wright's first name, let alone have a photo of him. Played 5 games, scored 2 goals. That's it. |
No's 6 for Portsmouth George Summerbee Mike's Dad |

George was his Dad Gordon was his Uncle.
George definately guested for Portsmouth during the War years I don't think Gordon did.
They played together for Aldershot for a time but didn't at Portsmouth that's why I think this is George. |

24th January 1976
FA Cup, 4th Round
Att: 43,116
Leeds United 0, Crystal Palace 1 (Swindlehurst)
From a series of articles run by the Independent about 15 years ago
Dave Swindlehurst, who headed home Peter Taylor's teasing cross for a deserved winner on one of the proudest days in Palace's history (top of Div 3 outplayed and weren't flattered by a 1-0 win at 2nd placed Div 1)

All I'm saying is - "Rothman's Football League Players' Records" says George M Summerbee was Mike's uncle. He played for Preston, Chester & Barrow. He's also mentioned in "The Football Who's Who" of 1935, when he was at PNE.
There's no mention of Gordon in either of those books.
A look at Soccer at War shows the 2 Summerbees like this.
1939/40
Aldershot - GC Summerbee 17 games
Portsmouth - GW Summerbee 11 games
1940/1
Portsmouth - G Summerbee 29 games (guest)
1941/2
Portsmouth - G Summerbee 25 games (guest)
1942/3
Aldershot - GC Summerbee 2 games
Portsmouth - G Summerbee 26 games (guest)
1943/4
Aldershot - G Summerbee 7 games
Portsmouth - G Summerbee 27 (guest)
1944/5
Aldershot - GC Summerbee 15 games
Portsmouth - G Summerbee 26 games (guest)
1945/6
Aldershot - GC Summerbee 13 games
Preston - G Summerbee 28 games
All of which proves nothing.
I'm not saying you are wrong, Hydemaine, but what I am saying is I'm more confused about it now than I was when I wrote the original article!

63 years ago (1952/3 season) and a 1st Division fixture between Sunderland and Blackpool.
A crowd of over 53,000 witnessed a 1-1 draw with Stan Hepton getting Blackpool’s goal in his only 1st team appearance of the season.
The programme is a nice 16 page issue but with lots of adverts.

Already have it, sorry - Dangerman had it in a box of wildlife based memorabilia.
Don't suppose you have anything from the now defunct FC Chinstrap? _________________ For a daily feed of football nostalgia please click on the link to view my Twitter page on your PC - https://twitter.com/MemorabiliaMal |

80 years ago (1935/6 season) and an FA Cup 4th Rd tie between Fulham and Blackpool.
The programme is a 12 page issue with plenty of content.
Fulham won 5-2 with Blackpool’s goals coming from Finan and Jones T.
The attendance was around 25,000.
