Pastpirate - what ever were you worried about?

When you sober up - congratulations.

It's nearly a year since Jamie posted this about some lazy arsed barstewards

Just shows what a difference a year makes for your clubs fortunes to change. He'll have a thick head in the morning

Yep, well done to the Gas.

It's extremely hard to bounce straight back out the bottle-neck that is the Conference these days, as many a big club like Luton, Wrexham and Grimsby have discovered.

It's also rare to see a club that has to get over the disappointment of missing out on an automatic slot by a whisker pick themselves up to triumph in the play-offs.

Clarke's done a superb job there this year.

I was pleased that Grimsby scored though, as that meant we're still the only team to go through the Conf P/offs without conceding a goal!! Smile

A great achievement to bounce straight back. Well done Rovers.

And well done to pastpirate for a diplomatic response a few weeks ago when one poster (can't remember who) brought the conference play offs into a debate about something entirely different.

I think he said something along the lines of

"Grimsby are going to win the league....enjoy the play off lottery".

It was probably only banter but these things have a habit of coming back to haunt you. Laughing

Well Down the "Gas".......as mentioned takes some effort to get out of the Conference in your first season!! I also wish them all the best with their legal fight regarding their "new" Ground issue...

Wave It was me

There is plenty of banter on this site and plenty of insults....sometimes it is difficult to determine which is which.....but yes...it was banter.

I was there yesterday....I thought we were the better team and had enough chances to win it in normal time.

Cant believe their keeper (Puddy) only received a yellow for handling the ball outside his box....the rules state he should have gone.

Anyway......like you said..... the lottery of the play offs.....and just like the England team... Grimsby never win the lottery.

PS: See your lot in a couple of seasons Laughing Laughing

Yes the keeper should have seen red for that, I thought so too.

A classic case of the ref playing the occasion and not the match.

Had that been a run-of-the-mill league game, he'd have sent him off without hesitation.

It seemed to affect Grimsby too, they were well on top up to that point, but appeared to let the injustice get to them.
A couple of their players were still arguing with the ref five minutes later.

Fair play though, he got the penalty shouts spot on I thought.

Fantastic attendance too.

TT. Grimsy were by far the better team yesterday and yes Puddy was lucky to stay on the pitch. Your fans were superb as well, never stopped singing, drove me up the wall lol. I did take you comment as good natured banter by the way.
Thanks for the good wishes all and yes the hangover was a biggy.
Andrew. When we went down a Luton fan told us not to try and buy league players as the Conf is different. he said sign younger upcoming players that know the league and he was right. Our manager knew what was needed down there and he succeeded.
I know how you are feeling right now and as hard as it seems things will get better. You all need to pull together NOW. We didn't until late September and it nearly cost us.
I will look back on this season as one of the best ever. The fans are great even if there are less of them. In saying that I never want to experience it again.

I just wish you had won the league (think it went mammaries up at Dover) ... pretty sure we would have seen off any of the others on the day.

With 13-14 ex-league clubs in the Conference, its never easy to get out of that league.
It took Mansfield 5 years, and to get out at the first time of asking, is a cracking achievement.
It wont be easy for anyone, and don't be surprised if another ex-league club ends up in the wilderness, just like Stockport County

That'll probably be us the way this summer is going Bob.

We've appointed two managerial dinosaurs in Butcher & Osman, the budget's been cut by a third, and we currently have a grand total of four players for next season.

That's a tough ask for anyone, let alone an ageing manager with such a glorious array of sackings behind him.

So the term 'worried' doesn't begin to describe me mate.

Honestly don't think we'd survive losing our league place either, the whole club appears to be built on quicksand right now following one mistake after another, so anything but relegation next year will be success for me.

Yes our forum has been visited by a few Hibees since he got the gig Tynie.

I don't see this appointment ending well either sadly.

Still, it's not the County's fault, after all, Justin Edinburgh left in January, so they only had four whole months to pick his successor.

Quite easy to get it wrong when you're rushed into an appointment like that I should imagine.

Confused
