I sent a package of programmes to Canada worth £25,cost £15.55 postage, stolen, compensation refused because I don't have original package and no receipts. When you buy a programme at the match you don't get a receipt, further info, they don't know what happened to it. What Royal Mail are saying is post at your own risk, as soon as you pay them, their responsibility has ended.

That's why you need to obtain a proof of posting when you post the package, so you have some comeback if and when it goes astray.

Otherwise, I could lie and claim I posted a package to Timbuktu which got lost and claim compensation.

Buying a programme from a seller at a match and you subsequently losing it yourself is not really comparable.

Of course I had proof of posting. It was sent with all other evidence including absolute proof from mail Canada that the package had arrived empty inside a plastic bag with an apology.

Sorry your original post read like you had no evidence of posting.

What reason are they giving? if you have proof of posting backed up with the empty package returned from Canada, I'm not sure on what grounds they can claim they are not responsible.

No proof of the value of the items.

I could produce receipts for items equivalent to the lost items I suppose but I refuse to do such a thing.

It was a private sale by email, some of the items I bought for the person, others I was selling for less than I paid for them. The man is a stand up guy and insitsed on paying for my loss, which I flatly refused because it is RM's place to compensate me.

If payment was made with paypal you could print the transaction from your paypal account which will act as a receipt showing the exact cost.
