Hi Guys,
Long time no post! That's having your first child and moving house for you... Which brings me nicely onto the reason for my post. The financials are not stacking up! So, I'm interested to hear your views about whether my collection has any reasonable value.
I have well over 1000 home Wimbledon programmes. This mainly covers senior games (league, cups, friendlies) from 1977 (entering the league) to the original clubs demise, then picks up the AFC Wimbledon gauntlet until 2013. I also have a number of items from subcollections like FA Amateur Cup and FA Youth Cup programmes.
The majority of these can be found on my website; www.wimbledonfcprogrammes.co.uk.
Do you think there is any value as a collection, or would they need to be broken up into seasons / higher value programmes etc? I will only move them on if they go as a whole, ideally for the collection to continue.
Any thoughts?
Cheers,
Pete |

Hi Pete
I think your AFC Wimbledon collection will be more valuable than the Wimbledon ones apart from the 1st two or three seasons in the League.
Maybe best to try selling in season order rather than one whole lot.
I collected Wimbledon programmes when they 1st came into the league as I went down there now and again when they gave out free tickets to the schools in Merton so I have most home to 1985.
Im sure there are more people here with better knowledge of programmes to advise better.

Good luck Pete, hope you get a offer.......
You may just have to put them in the loft & get them out in 10 years.....
Very little value at present, I have been looking at whole seasons of pompey home programmes with cuttings go for £10 or less.......
a dealer with offer less, that for sure...

Cheers for the feedback guys!
As I anticipated... Not really a sellers market! Might have to lock them away for a few years...!!

Always a difficult one selling a collection, We all know the effort that goes in to putting it together.
Maybe you can sell it 'en masse' to a Dons fan but the dealer route might bring tears to your eyes in this current market. As a fellow collector of Wimbledon for my first/last seasons I believe that in general their programmes with few exceptions are not that hard to find and consequently not particularly expensive. The last season and a bit at Selhurst is more difficult (low attendance) but again not collected by that many (certainly Dons fans) in view of the birth AFC and the franchising of the club issue.
Selling complete seasons is, as pompeypete says, a bit of a waste of time. The exception being if there is a scarce item in there. Allowing cherry-picking (I need a few) will usually leave you with a pile of unsellables. You could think of a figure and put the collection on Ebay
and see if you get a response, nothing lost if it does not sell.
As suggested you could (always seal it up from the air) store it for 10 years!
Good luck Pete in your decision, and keep us posted. |

To give you some sort of idea I have just cleared out a load of Chesterfield spares.
Starting from mid 1950s to this season.
This included a home run of 40 seasons from 65/6 - 2005/6 with just 2 progs missing and 35 away seasons with just 23 missing, over 120 friendlies.
This totalled over 2,200 progs.
I got just £360 for them. |

Hi Guys,
Appreciate your time! This forum always has been incredibly helpful.
It sounds like a finding a fan that might be interested, could be the only way forward. I might try the eBay approach, just to test the water.
Hmm... I'll have a think!
Good luck to all your teams tomorrow!

Stick it in the attic. I agree. You may get the bug again one day. |

Haha! The bug never left - it's the money! That's the long and short of it.
Unfortunately, there's not many of the older rarer programmes in there, other than the Amateur Cup games. I'm sure the odd one is rare, but certainly not the bulk.
It's a shame as it's fundamentally pretty complete. Every programme is carefully within an acid free envelope with backing card - even the modern programmes! |
