another episode of what i hope will become a regular feature where i offer collectors a look at some items in my collection.
i have today loaded onto my flickr page
1 Cover of the programme from Estudianates v Manchester United in the World Club championship played in Buenos Aries on 25/9/1968
2 Cover of the programme from Sarajevo v Manchester in the European cup match played on 15/11/1967.
This programme has been featured on this forum in the past
Also shown is a poster from the game which is believed to be the only one in existence
3 Cover of the programme from Anderlecht v Manchester United in the European Cup.
This is where it all started. This was Manchester United's first ever game in Europe
4 A series of 3 letters between Matt Busby and the Commander of the British Rhine army in Germany in 1956.
After beating Anderlecht Manchester United were drawn against Borussia Dortmund.
By reading the letters you can see how disorganised it was.
United begged for training facilities off the British Army which was granted and in return they offered tickets for the game.
A totally unique insight into the early days of the Eoropean Cup
Also shown are the programme from the game and a team page given by the Manchester Evening News to hospital patients who followed the game on the hospital radio service
Finally a match ticket
5 The famous brochure from 1901 of the Newton Heath Bazaar.
Newton Heath were deep in the financial do do and held a bazaar to try to raise £1000 to hold off banruptcy.
During this Bazaar there was a St Bernard dog walking round with a brandy barrel round its neck collecting coins.
The story goes that the dog, which belonged to the captain, ran off.
It was found by a young girl whose father owned the local brewery.
The brewery owner offered to save the club if his daughter could keep the dog and the club changed it's name.
So ended Newton Heath and up strated Manchester United.
In 40 years collecting i have only ever seen 2 of these. The other is in the Manchester United museum.
i have copied 3 or 4 pages including the cover and the team and the directors line up
6 Another from the "only one of it's kind series"
It is a set of Manchester United accounts from season 1930/31
These accounts belonged to director Herbert Davies.
You can see him in his study examining these accounts complaining about the travel expenses and the charity donations and asking about the valuation of the team and the stock of kit.
United have £12 in readies and £16 in the bank.
7 A programme from Manchester United v Barcelona.
This is often commented by players and fans apart as being the most atmospheric night ever at Old Trafford.
This programme was signed on the night by a man who played for Barcelona in the game.
The one and only "hand of God" man,Diego Maradona
8 Finally a brochure from the fans celebrating the Manchester United second division championship win of 1935/36
Some nice photos of the fans and the manager Mr Scott Duncan relaxing by Loch Lomond.
I wonder if Sir Alex fancies a day out by the side of the Clyde!!
Well that's my days work over so off for my dinner
You won't get much change out of 50 grand for that lot so i hope you find something to amuse you
