They can go for anything between £10 and £25 on ebay. There are replica programmes out there as well, so make sure it's an original. If you're methodical about getting one you'll definitely get one for between £10 and £15, it's just a matter of bidding something like that every time a decent one comes around.

Morning John, How do you tell an original from a replica for this programme please?

On a similar subject. What would I expect to pay for 1949, 1950, 1952, 1953 and 1955 please?

Quality of paper is the obvious one. The original will certainly feel and smell over 50 years old. The repro just looks and feels too good to be true. It's difficult to physically define, but the "feel" of 40's and 50's F A Cup Final programmes is definitely different to the repros because of the quality of the paper used. The 40's Finals were produced on pulp type paper, the repros on modern paper, and they're very easy to detect from the originals. The 50's are too, perhaps to a lesser extent, but don't forget that old paper always has a certain smell to it. Modern paper is wholly different. Get sniffing and rubbing!

Thank you John for your speedy reply.

Sniffing and rubbing are two of my favourite pastimes so that won't be a problem Very Happy

There's also a very good copy out there that can be identified by a number two printed under the name of Nat Lofthouse on the team page, who of course scored both of the goals on the day. Obviously the original programme that was used had been annotated by the original owner and subsequently wasn't spotted prior to the re-print. I bought my copy, when I first started collecting, from a very well known dealer who still operates today, who sold it as an original at the top price. You live and learn !

Roger, check out sportingold's archive of auction results. You'll often find details of 4 or 5 such programmes being sold together, and despite the 15% commission is still the best and cheapest way to do it. Don't go paying top whack individually.

The 1958 Reprint with the annotation on the team page is shown on John Cookman's excellent Centre Spot reference site under FA Cup Final Section (1950s). If you 'roll over' the picture you will see exactly where the marking is.
