An interesting question.

Heywood United played in the Manchester League but there were no Manchester United teams playing in that League as you will know, so the match in question has to be a friendly of some sorts as you have already mentioned and is likely to have been played by the Manchester United Reserves perhaps as the gap between Heywood and United's first X1 would have been as immense back then as it would be today.
There appears to be no records suggesting a match between the 2 clubs-hence your question perhaps, but to ask such a random question then something has to have instigated it?.

Maybe some sort of Benefit Match?

Yes, a Heywood based friend of mine has a house built roughly on the site of the old Heywood United ground, I did some research and found that they had played Manchester United in a friendly but other than knowing the season was 1907/08 and the score being 2-0 to Heywood I couldn't find the exact date, I thought it may have been in some Man U records, my intention was when our current crisis is over ,to go to the local library and obtain a copy of the match report, get it framed and present it to my friend, having the exact date would have helped, but thank you for your help and interest.
