Hi does anyone know of any dealers or shops which may hold a decent stock of north east non league teams who have played in the FAC proper???? i.e. 1st round proper and onwards.

I'm pulled together a match listing for the post war games and those i've found a pretty cheap 50p - £1, however the postage on individual items its costing more than the progs themselves!!!!!

Id consider buying as a lot / local collection if anyone was able to help. If not looks like its back to the drawing board to think of a new aea of collecting..............

Cheers

I'm not not aware of anyone who sells them in bulk. I'm afraid that is the name of the game in collecting. Most people build up collections bit by bit over the years. Finding items you've long gave up on is a thrill. Yes the postage over the years will add up (but it keeps me in a job). I think most will agree, that there would be no fun in buying whole complete collections. I am building up a collection of every programme in the fa cup 1973 season, including early rounds, and it's good fun. Paying postage is just the way it is, but i won't pay over the odds... i think your best bet would be to look out for a local fair.

Hi and thanks for the reply Wullie.

Probably should be a bit more specific..............does anyone know of any non league stockists (this isnt an area if looked into before) where it may be possible to pick up a decent subset of the selection mentioned.

Cheers

Doddsy,

I started a collection of Northern League clubs in the FA Cup proper a few years ago but I've found some of the programmes very difficult to obtain. When these difficult ones do come on the market, they are obviously very pricey as most people are after them. Luckily I’ve managed to collect 63 out of the 68 ties involving Northern League clubs back to 1970. Unfortunately, obtaining the programmes from the 50’s and 60’s (with the exception of a few) is about as rare as a Middlesbrough win these days Sad.

Did you know that there is a programme shop in Middlesbrough that has a few boxes of Northern League programmes? It's well worth a rummage and you may be lucky to obtain one or two from there. One tip though.....don't wear your Newcastle shirt.

Thumbs Up

The older issues do go for big money. I find John Dee a good source. His offers catalogue normally has a good selection of rare north east stuff. pm me if you need his address.

One of the ones I am missing is the Gateshead v Crewe Alexandra FA Cup 1974-1975 1st round replay. According to the #1 Crewe collector there was no issue - do any of you have anything?

Grimsby v Blyth currently on e-bay.

The replay must be one of the most difficult to obtain programmes of the last forty or so years. It was played during the three-day week, kicking off at something daft like 1:00 p.m. on a Tuesday in December.
The last couple of times I've seen it on e-bay it has fetched over £100.00. Needless to say it's on my "Wants" list Sad

Barralad, thanks for the tip off re Grimsby v Blyth currently been on e-bay. I've put it on my watching list Wink I can understand why I haven't obtained the replay. At over £100 it's going to stay on my wants list for a long time.

Houghmartin, I can't shed any light on that issue I'm afarid.

The Blyth vs Grimsby replay is a rarity because it was played on a midweek afternoon, because of the electricity cuts during the 3 day week. Consequently, they only produced a really small number of programmes for a much reduced gate. The laws of supply and demand did the rest. Have only ever had the one, in a collection we bought for our programme stall in the club shop at Blundell Park, in 1989, off the old groundsman Frank Bridge.

Sorry if this is a bit redundant but I just joined today. There most definitely was a programme issued for the Gateshead v Crewe 74/75 FA Cup game but when a crowd of 8,000 turned up they were in pretty short supply! Standard Gateshead United 8-page issue, green & white cover, Gateshead of course won 1-0 after extra time.

Thanks for this gem of info. I don't suppose you have a copy in your collection do you? If so I would love a scan or photocopy.

Unfortunately I no longer have that programme. 10 years ago, just before getting married, the need for cash led to the sale of my programme collection, vinyl record collection etc etc (sob). Now we're a bit more established I've started colecting again, but the prices nowadays came as a bit of a shock! Anyway, I'm always looking, a copy/scan will be no problem if I can find one! I suppose the bottom line though is that I have previously owned it so I can confirm it's existence.
