This might sound daft - I am trying to identify a pile of Cup tickets I have for Liverpool home matches. There are no dates or details of opposition. Just row no and seat no on some. Ticket Series letter on later ones circa 1990. Is there anybody out there who may be able to shed any light on this?

Tickets from 70s-90s.
Cheers John

Hi John

The simple answer is that unless the ticket came with the programme or newspaper clipping you would not be able to identify the game as the season is not shown on the ticket. I have similar ticket stubs one of which is yellow and is football league competition so all I can take from this is it was pre sponsorship.

Maybe another ticket collector can help as they may have been colour coded for each particular season.

Hi Derek

I've managed to work out a few to certain seasons as you said due to sponsorship and changes to the ground on the back of the ticket - but as there doesnt seem to be any colour coding or tie "k" details like in some 70s ones then in theory I could have 6 tickets from the same game Sad

Lets hope somebody out there has some idea.
Cheers John

Hi John

Yes , another method of elimination is to look at a season that we did not have a FA Cup home game then it can only be a League Cup home game or the other way round.

Similiar tickets have been produced for some european games but they are usually easier to identify the game to the ticket.

A Liverpool ticket collector expert will probably pop out of the blue ( maybe that should be red!) with all the answers to every FA Cup /League cup ticket that has been issued.

Have you seen the Keith Stanton monthly programme catalogues?. In the past tickets have been produced in articles about european games. Maybe they done some for the domestic games.

The answers are out there somewhere.

Hi Derek

I havent tried the Keith Stanton catalogue - I've spoken with him a couple of times before I started collecting (I was selling a mates collection and wanted some advice). Its odd that some tickets for the semi against Bayern in 81 have semi final on them and others don't. very confusuing for a collector.

I have one other semi for the european cup which I presume is Panathanaikos as it a different colour to the one on the liverpoolineurope website for the Bucarest game in 84.

If I find out anything i will let you know.

Cheers John
