i've just got the latest programme monthly and looking through the offers booklet there's an advert that will interest any man utd collectors
it reads
"offers over £8000 Shocked for sarajevo v manchester united 1967 programme, buyer must come to belgrade and he can check the programme, see it,feel it and then pay for it"
so you have to offer over £8000 and then pay for your flights to belgrade to get the programme
i was just wondering if manchesterunitedman1 or any other man utd collector could tell me how much is this programme worth?

Very Rare, more so than the infamous away at Red Star Belgrade, or the very first United game in Europe against RSC Anderlecht in 1956-7. No one knows exactly how many copies are in existence-I would put it at 10 or under such is the scarcity that may have ever surfaced back in the UK. The match tickets also are as tough for sure. Collecting and pricing in many cases is about opnions and some opinion said this was an item that could fetch 5 figures plus, but in today's climate there can only be a few who may wish to consider this surely. I think if it was offered for sale in the UK then seeing it at an auction house is going to give anyone a better feeling than jumping on a plane to be met in Kosovo with £8k in yer pocket!!. By the way the RSC Anderlecht away is coming up for sale at Sporting Memorys on 5th August, lot 1169 estimated at £2-3k but has been restored. Leslie Millman-manchesterunittedman1 Wave Wave Wave Wave

Absolutely amazing collection Bow

Made me feel embarassed now with all that priase, but thanks for the kind words.

Yes it is a toughie for sure, and to my knowledge the 2 tickets you have been kind enough to mention are to my knowledge the only 2 i know to have turned up, if anyone out there has one[or two] let me know-same with the programme. I was fortunate to obtain the programme from someone connected to the club who went on the trip all those years ago, a lot of established United collectors may still not have this one but perhaps now that this one has turned up there could be a scramble for pane tickets!!-who knows. If anyone would like to see some of the inside of the programme send me a PM-ok. Thumbs Up Leslie Millman

Sarajevo away is about as hard as it gets and the only other one in this league is the Estudiantes away 1968. If you go to www.flickr.com/photos/manchesterunitedman1/and go to sets and locate "Estudiantes in 1968" there is a whole section on that particular game-all items are original. I sent to you a PM as soon as i saw this appear above, but i had no reply from you so i sent it again just now-let me have the details of the name and address of the seller as I have a contact or two in that part of the world who will determine perhaps if the seller is genuine or just someone trying it on-ok Leslie Millman

If I lived there and had one I'd ship it to an auction house over here to sell it for me.

Lincolnredman

I sent to you 2 PM's asking the name and the address from the programme monthly-and am still waiting to hear from you. I have a contact over in that area who will visit the seller to see if it is genuine, if it actually exists or if it is a total scam-please let me have that info -ok. Thanks Leslie MILLMAN-MANCHESTERUNITEDMAN1.

didnt think so, but as i no longer subscribe to the John Litster monthly as i am not interested in the dross he offers to attempt to keep his ailing antiquated monthly effort alive i wanted to see for myself if this was the genuine article or some BS scam. Very big on telling everyone how to do things is JL yet he took the sellers money for the ad-that s what he has always been about, but not anymore- he is a total dinosaur yet he slags off ebay at every attempt but sells PM on ebay via another party also from Norwich[yeh not him of course!].PM lost it's power once ebay arrived so we collectors could see what we were getting and we could determine how much to pay. How many times perhaps over the last 20 years did anyone send in a bid to a PM advertiser saying i will pay "up to £XX-and lo and behold that is what you sometimes paid the maximum". Ebay is the greatest ever asset to collectors all over the world for whatever they are interested in from stuffed animals to collecting bits of paper regarding football matches, the communication-the awareness, the chance to meet and get involved with people and places unheard off before!, buying scarce items in Europe and South America on the click of the mouse-wonderfull!, and that auld dinosaur is still trying to convince himself and everyone else to waste £2.50 or whatever it is nowadays to read all about what he has got and what he wants to sell. I stopped contributing my monthly articles years ago-someone must have told him it costs money to say "Thank You"!" Scouse I am now that i have that off me chest. Must dash got to write to a new contact in Bolivia with whom I HAVE MET VIA THE aRGENTINAIN EBAY SITE-AS HE HAS SOME PHOTOS AND A COUPLE OF ORIGINAL POSTERS FROM WHEN uNITED TRAVELLED TO eSTUDIANTES IN 1968 AND His DAD WORKED ON THE LOCAL NESPAPER IN lA pLATA-NOW HOW CAN YOU FIND ANYONE VIA pROGRAMME mONTHLY WITH THAT INFO, AND BEFORE ANY SMART ARSED SAYS " I bet their fakes or copies-i do not give a monkeys because all they are costing me is the postage which will be about £18 secured mail-so for that investment i am very comfortable-watch out for their inclusion on my site later in the year www.flickr.com/photos/manchesterunitedman1/

Another interesting rant. If I recall, you were never the shrinking violet in your articles either when it came to waxing lyrical about items in you collection. Don't you realise you were once part of this antiquated monthly?

For all it's faults and perhaps dinosauric nature, it's still there and I don't see anyone else offering an alternative.

I can see both sides on this latest post, there is no alternative to programme monthly, but the quality of the Market place section and also the magazine has waned over recent years. There is so much modern dross being advertised to fill the pages and I too agree with Leslie that the constant knocking of eBay does the magazine no devours ad it sounds like sour grapes. I have also tried emailing to reserve anything that is worth having and surprise surprise it is gone and that's if I get a response.
Still

To be fair, there is constant knocking of ebay on here and he has a point with regards to increasing charges and the way ebay operates.

Market Place has gone downhill, but that's to be expected.

Why would anyone want to pay for it these days, in the market place section 8 tenths is John's own stock, with all his ads and the like, there are a handfull buy on ebay and sell through his medium, only because they do not want what readers are left know how or what they paid for it all. Yes I used to write a column but that is all I ever did-got little thanks or appreciation not that i was looking for anything, still had to pay me £1 to go into one of his fairs! and i do not need exposure for sure, everthing with him was an effort, even putting a full page ad in you felt more like a nuisance or that is how he came across.
Just because i wrote a column does not mean that i supported his views, the number of letters i had over those years from fellow United collectors and many others asking for photocopies of the items was what i did it for just like now with my flickr site-it is open to anyone and everyone, i am not one of those collectors who hordes everything away and never lets anyone know what they have-is this another rant?. No one is ever going to offer an alternative because you have missed the point-NO ONE REALLY WANTS IT ANYMORE, it is old and unfashionable and Holtie is right-he gripes and hates ebay [but still sells on it be it him or his aunt fanny] plus the most important factor-no one can make any brass out of it because it is the advertisers who keep it going and what dealers are left some areare too frightened to stop their ads so they keep paying begrudgingly. There was an old boys network of dealers all aligned to PM, some of the old boys are still around-doing the same venus all keeping it together and all doing business on ebay.
Nothing can be perfect, but rather than give PM £2.50 or whatever it is these days to read about what the editor says and what the editor is doing and see all the dross the editor from Raith is offering i would rather surf ebay daily as no self respecting collector looking to sell is these days going to use PM apart from the old boys who are clinging onto the last vestiges of reality
