Hi , Can any one out there give me any details on the Bradford City v Nimes Olympique game that we played on the 16-05-51 ?

I'm after information on whether there was a programme issued or not and if that was the only game that Bradford City played in the Festival?

Cheers Garry

Hi

I know Sheffield Wednesday played a team called Frem on the same date as the Bradford match above.
Pretty sure that said Festival of Britain on the programme. Don't know anything else about it i'm afraid.

I think surfinjim has got a copy of the Wednesday programme. Might have more info inside.

Cheer, Russ.

The link to rsssf has Bradford v Partizan Belgrade on May 14th 2-0 to Bradford.

That list is by no means complete though.

I collect Irish in the FoB if I'm not being too cheeky to list my Wants here.

Southport v Drumcondra. Oldham v Cork Athletic,
Accrington Stanley v Cork Athletic, Oldham v Bohemians,
Accrington Stanley v Bohemians, Rochdale v Bohemians.
Rochdale v Shamrock Rvs, Carlisle v Waterford , St. Mirren v Distillery,
Dundee v Distillery,Stirling v Distillery.

Any of these would be very rare and worth a few hundred pounds and I would pay any reasonable price for them.

Although listed as Bradford City, I'm sure it was Bradford Park Avenue who actually played Partizan Belgrade on 14/5/51.

The list shows Manchester United playing Crvena Zvezda whom are more well known outside of Yugoslavia as it was then known as Red Star Belgrade which was played on the 12th May 1951.

However there is a scond match played on the 25th April 1951 under the heading "Festival of Britain-Local Celebrations". This was a match played at the Stretford Gas Social Club Ground, Glebeland Road in Sale[about 2 miles from Old Trafford] btween A Manchester United Team andn A Sale Team.

Extremely rare and very scarce item indeed priced at the very high sum of ONE SHILLING!, the programme acted as the admission fee so you got it on entering, could not have been many attending for sure, these days an item such as this is valued at several hundred pounds.

Does anyone else have similar "Local Celebration" matches at all?.

You can view this item on my website www.flickr.com/phortos/manchesterunitedman1/, just go to the sets named "HOME FRIENDLIES" AND YOU CAN DOWN LOAD IT FOR FREE AS WELL AS ANY OF THE OTHER 3000+ IMAGES. LESLIE MILLMAN Wave

Leslie you are a hero. I thought I had EVERY Utd game post war listed and you've just given me one more! Are you complete back to the war, home/away/cup/euro/friendlies etc? I would love to pick your brains about a few things. The sellers around Old Trafford when I've asked about certain things have all name dropped you!

If i can help-just ask, cannot guarantee to know the answers though

There was another odd game played at at the Stretford Gas Social Club Manchester United v Sale Team for the National Playing Fields Association Silver Jubilee Fund 19th April 1949-same deal admission by programme cost 1 shilling-another hens teeth item but the Festival of Britain is scarcer for sure and this one only pops up every 10 years!-also on the www underaway friendlies. As I wasn't even a twinkle in my mother's eye in 1951 (as she wasn't even born then) - what exactly was this 'festival' all about? I'm guessing it wasn't anything to do with a big concert with Lonnie Donegan and Bing Crosby as headliners. Ayatollah
