Have just finished going through a collection that I purchased recently and have come across the following autographs - any idea of a value ?

Bobby Moore
Bobby Charlton
Alf Ramsey
Nobby Stiles
Charles brothers
Ian st john
Jimmy Greaves
Gordon Banks
Numerous other 60s welsh english scottish irish internationals

I am not looking to sell these as I collect autographs and are an excellent addition to my collection

Cheers

Matt

I was fortunate in having several photographs signed a few years ago by my all time footballing hero the late Derek Dougan , and may i add at no cost to me, one premo "star" i wrote to wanted £40 for one autograph, i have had a number of these photos of The Doog profestionaly framed and thay look awesome.
Have you seen the way players "sign" today it is just scribble .

Approx 15 years ago I was offered a 16 page brochure / menu which commemorated the World Cup ’66 Silver Jubilee Celebration at the Wembley Banqueting Suite (1991). It was for the SOS charity.

I was informed that it was autographed (not known by whom) so I decided to gamble and purchase it for the pricely sum of £10 hoping that it was autographed by some of the ‘66 winning team.

Fortunately the menu appears to be autographed by most of the 1966 team although I can’t see George Cohen or Alan Balls names. They may be one of the autographs I can’t decipher. Of the 21 autographs, I can definitely identify Banks, Wilson, Stiles, Jack Charlton, Moore, Hurst, Bobby Charlton, Peters, Hunt, Armfield and Alf Ramsey.

Although not for sale, would any autograph collectors out there be able to value it? I guess it’s worth a bit more than the £10 I forked out.

ROCKYBORO

I would have thought you would get about £100 max for it. Reason I say this is that approx 18 months ago I sold at auction a 1966 England v Wales (Their 2nd game after winning the World Cup) prog for £350 which had been signed by the complete England 66 World Cup winning team, but it was signed at the game in 1966.
Over the years the 66 team have done multiple signings at functions for charities etc so the market dropped for autographed memorabilia.
One other note you can tell if it is an early signed item, as Nobby Stiles at the time of the World Cup always signed items as N Stiles, but later changed his signature to Nobby Stiles.

On this issue of autographs can someone please explain this C of A business. I have a Leeds home programme from late 60s signed by most of the Leeds squad. I bought it from a reliable source a few years ago when autographs were no big deal. Now when I look on eBay C of A keeps being mentioned. What is it and how would I go about getting one ? Indeed do I really need one ?

Cheers for the reply Foxes.

The Stiles autograph is signed 'Nobby Stiles'. As the function was in 1991, I guess this ties in with the differing styles of Nobby's autograph you describe.

Thumbs Up

Went to a sportsman's Dinner in Rotherham a few years ago (who'd have thought the bald guy on the next table would be reffing the World Cup Final).
The former Liverpool captain Ronnie Whelan was there, I asked him to sign a copy of the 1989 Cup Final, he did, which I raffled off to our local cancer hospital for £20, then I asked him to sign a copy of the Final the year before. He sat puzzled for about 20 seconds then told me to fornicate off, he realised I was talking about the Wimbledon one. All in good jest I may add Laughing

On Sunday, the United players signed the team sheet for the game against Estudiantes for the kids, I know that's authentic, unless someone cloned Chris Morgan (not a pretty thought).

It was great for the lads, meeting the players etc, but personally I can't see the attraction in autographs, it's a niche in the market which is open to widespread abuse.

There are some sellers on e-bay who have hundreds of cards, all different players, all different teams, allegedly all personally collected.

Right enough of this, I'm off to the back room, to practice my Bobby Moore signature.
