Simple fact is, you'll not get one via advertising...Sportingold have 2 or 3 in their forthcoming sale, but they ain't cheap. |

I thought I'd try on here first, but it looks like I may have to go down the auction route. What price range do you think I may be looking at John? |

Probably something to do with the fact that we were in the heady heights of Division 1 then....................how the mighty are fallen |

46-7 programmes from most clubs are fairly thin on the ground. Chuck in the fact that money was tight, and the travel links to Grimsby were non existent apart from trains that took ages to get there from relatively short distances so few visiting fans ever made the trip and you have the classic law of supply and demand. I think there was a fairly limited print run for home games as well.
I think I've mentioned it on here before, but when myself and two friends took over the defunct club shop in the 86-7 season we very quickly turned it into the best programme shop in the country by a long way. We advertised regularly in the local press, and all rare programmes were given a month (two home games) in the shop before we put anything on an offers list in Programme Monthly. This meant that we built up a very loyal customer base who would come and spend decent money in the shop whenever they came in - this has lasted and you'll see that most pre war, 40's and 50's Town programmes go for more money than most other clubs due to there still being a good lot of Town collectors. |

Hi, went on the Sportingold auction and was successful in bidding for the 46/47 Grimsby v Huddersfield prog. It cost £30 plus commission (about another £6). So, £36 in total...was this a good price?
I also got a 48/9 Grimsby v Bradford PA for £22 (inc about £4 in commission), again...was this a fair price?
I was also made aware that there is currently a 46/7 Grimsby v Stoke on ebay.. Price istands at £9.09 with about 3 days left.
It always happens though, you are looking all over for something, you finally get one, then another pops up just after..typical...
Thanks for everyones help and advice in my quest...very much appreciated. |

You've obviously paid the current market price for them Tintowner. Town programmes don't seem to lose their value so £30 for a 46-7 programme anywhere in the north east is a reasonable price to pay, ditto the BPA programme.
Stoke one on ebay will probably go £30 to £40, unless there's more than a couple of folk want it.
Was up at Stirling the other night for the Gy friendly. Team sheets and (unusually) programmes issued for the game. |

John or anyone else would you know why Grimsby v Linfield 54/5 is so scarce? I only got it recently (privately) and never saw one for sale or on offer anywhere. |

Only ever saw the one Gary, and that was in my late pal Sid Woodhead's collection which got sold after he died. Town friendlies were / are notoriously difficult to get hold of in the 50's / 60's and early 70's as they all tended to be single page / four page affairs on fairly flimsy paper. I can only assume though that there must have been very low print runs, as I bought dozens and dozens of Grimsby collections from that period when we were in the shop, and also privately, and never got a sniff of a Linfield one. Witton Albion and Bath, both games vs non league in FACup from same era I never saw either.
Reference Manchester United at Grimsby, we did get the 45-6 vs United at Blundell Park for £30 off a dealer at a fair we ran, and then had real problems trying to get our money back on it! That would be about the 86-7 season. We had one from the 47-8 season which went into the late Ron Cowling's collection who was also a partner in RJS Programmes (Ron, John and Sid) Haven't seen any others.... |

Thanks John. It is by far the rarest postwar Irish League away friendly in
mainland Britain. It must have been a very low printrun. I was wondering was there a problem on the day. |
