Good luck in selling Peterborough United v Wrexham 1960/1961 at £79.00. Way overpriced.

I don't want to sound rude but you have asked a similar if not same question as the one posted some time ago. I get the feeling that you have bought something and now are having to come to terms with the fact that things are not what you were hoping for. I agree with the posting and also that the Peterborough v Wrexham programme is way over priced and is worth £20-£30.
Good luck

A big collection of those Walsall issues from the turn of the 20th century turned up 10-15 years ago (might even by 20 years ago).

Although there weren't a huge amount of duplicates it does reduce the value and many are being re-cycled quite a bit.

You really must do you research before committing to a purchase. The Peterborough United v Wrexham 1960/1961, is never worth the £54.94 (inclusive of postage) you paid originally for it on ebay.

A 1891 walsall swifts v canadians programme is for sale on south staffs programmes for £500.00. Is this the same one you have (with small piece in the top corner missing?) the programme had been listed on Barry Swash's website for at least 8 years with no takers, like Gary Spain was saying a collection of them appeared 20 years ago around the 1890's which makes them a lot cheaper, take Sheff Utd programmes for example lots of them about from the 1890's and worth £50-£150 each unless they are playing Man Utd, Chelsea, Tottenham, Leeds etc they're not worth any more,
The trouble is Walsall don't have many collectors or at least collectors who are going to pay £££'s for a single item, i have seen a few other Walsall match cards from the 1890's at Sportingold & Budds in the past and they almost always fail to reach to the reserve, the only one to go for good money was against Wolves at the October 2004 Sportingold sold for £770 but as you may be aware Wolves are a very well collected club

Just a thought, have you considered a general auction?
People may not know as much about the market and will see a 1890s programme and their eyes will light up. You can put a reserve, you would therefore lose nothing!
Just a thought, don't like to see people out of pocket but as has been already said, do your research before buying!
Good luck

As Gary mentioned, a large collection appeared approx 20 years ago. I also remember Barry Swash having more than just that one that's been mentioned on his website and he was selling on behalf of somebody else. When they first appeared, the price been asked was £120 which was a lot of money in those days. However I remember a Walsall v Middlesbrough Ironopolis (ex league club) been on sale and that programme would surely now raise a fair bit of money. If I'd only had the balls to buy it Crying or Very sad

It was at least 20 years ago the more I think about it.

There would have been Loughborough, Gainsbrough Trinity and Darwen aways too at Walsall.

I got a friendly v Cliftonville 1899. Barry was also asking for prewar swops which was good for him too as it gave him more to deal with over the years.

There would have been programmes v Man Utd (indeed I remember a Newton Heath fetching big money) , Arsenal, Man city which probably disappeared into collections at the time.

The collection stopped circa 1900 or 1901 IIRC.

i DO NOT DISAGREE WITH YOUR COMMENTS, i MAY BE AROUND A COUPLE OF MONTHS BEHIND ON THIS TOPIC BUT I CAN ADVISE YOU THAT THE WASLALL TOWN SWIFTS V NEWTON HEATH MATCH CARD WAS SOLD TO mANCHESTER UNITED MUSEUM IN 2000 FOR £7,200 PLUS AROUND 20% HAMMER AND VAT, IN REALITY IT WAS PURCHASED BY THE CLUB FOR OVER WELL OVER £8000. i KNOW THIS BECAUSE IT WAS SOLD ON MY BEHALF TO THEM AS I HAD 2!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! YOU CAN SEE THE OTHER ONE ON MY WEBSITE www.flickr.com/photos/manchesterunitedman1/

All of the walsall victorian match cards were turned up by Barry Swash, I purchased 3 off them in total over 10 years ago when he came upon this "find". and all were against Newton HEATH ONE WAS FOR 1897 AND THE OTHER WAS FOR 1899-THE OTHER TWO RAISED SUBSTANTAIL AMOUNTS ONE BEING HALF OF THE EARLIEST ONE AND THE LA1899 WAS IN EXCESS OF £2,500 ALL THAT TIME AGO. mATCH CARDS SUCH AS THIS AS FAR AS NEWTON hEATH IS CONCERNED HAVE BEEN DISCOVERED FOR MATCHES AT eVERTON WHICH I THINK SOLD FOR £4000, BOOTLE, AND ONE AT NEWCASTLE uNITED-FOR THE LAST 2 i Am unaware of any prices.
Newton Heath items are very rare indeed as against the Sheffield clubs that turn up programme wise, some Liverpool and Everton as well mainly due to a lot of bound volumes over the years were fproduced at the time and broken up over the years.
The issue is that that any league club's match cards that turn up and are against the likes of Newton Heath, or Tottenham, or a handfull of other well collected clubs they will indeed go quite cheapley. There is a Newton Heath v Canadians match in existence and it would cost you a few bob if you could prize it away from the owner I suspect.
