Following on from the ongoing 'Guide To Middlesbrough Programmes, Fixtures, Results..And More' books, the authors have brought out a new unique book as an accompaniment to the series, entitled Ayresome Park Through Wartime.

In many ways, this period may be regarded as 'the lost years of football', but despite an era when football was quite rightly very low down the list of prominence and priorities, the sport still had an important part to play amidst the horrors of War. Hopefully, the book will help illustrate the role football played in Middlesbrough, and similarly with many clubs across the whole country, which helped bring some sort of 'normality' to people, even if only for a Saturday afternoon.

The book provides a review of each season from the start of 1939/40 to the end of 1945/46 and includes many 'new' or 'forgotten' facts about every Boro match played in the War League, cup competitions and friendly matches involving the first-team, reserve team and Colts team, along with players and guests who represented the club during these years. Guest players were an integral feature of this period, whereby players stationed with different Armed Services around the country were able to 'guest' for local clubs within the vicinity.

Further details of the book and how to order a copy are shown in this link http://www.middlesbroughfccollection.co.uk/

Finally, a shameless plug for our Flickr site which offers images of Middlesbrough home and away programmes dating back to the early 20th century https://www.flickr.com/photos/187311548@N07/albums
